Bishop called a meeting. No one asked to have marthoma cross and curtain. Every one asked to have only crusified cross and no curtain. Bishop got no choice to say that there is a diffrent openion. Now he uses power. But what he get from this by getting away from public for his ego?

If the Bishop is so stubborn in this matter, Parishioners do not allow for blessing ceremony on 27th Mar, 2010. Church will be closed and Auditorium may be used until Bishop change his stand. At the same time Parishioners do not pay any contribution to the chuch and finally church may go for foreclosure.

...Everybody is upset by today's unfortunate events. Majority of the members decided to stop any further donations for this B/s. Bishop and Party is playing cheap politics. Expect telephone calls to your family by Bishop, Vicar General and Fr.Zacharias to turn the issues to their favour by this week end. As already planned AV Thomas is missing. Kaikararn Thomas is crying and begging for support. Bishop will not take a decision soon, but will inform his decision on the day of Church blessing. He want Fr.Sagi's blood before that.Also he want flesh of the opposition for making his favourite 'MUTTON BIRIYANY". Beware, he was silent about Parish but repeated "Mission" on his speech .Any way it is a shame for the Bishop to have a holy Mass without any attendance. So you coppel folks, finally you got a mission "Kurisupally". Those who stood up today, beware you are already on the hit list.Those who in positions will see that the related positions abolished. "What the Bishop want is poor fellows who only donate not ask any question.They think the laity is illiterate, ignorant and always donate."

The bishop has to respect the will of the people if the Church is to survive in the US. Like in Kerala, the church has no other source of income like from rubber and coconut estates. Born Proud Catholic said...: I am not a "Sabha"person to comment on Bishop's acts. There may be a reason why Bishop is imposing this rules on people.

But the other side of the fact is that if people do not want this new suggestons and if they believe the new traditions are hurting their believes, Church may need to re-evaluate their suggestions too.

Having said that, Church may not beleive in democrocy. So what do we do?
Can we run away from catholic church? Answer is "NO".

What else we can do?
Write comments after comments in Syro Voice and hopefully people will buy the correct ideas.

Syro Voice - Use dignity language towards Bishop. Afteral he is our Bishop.

In my umble opinion, I am not against any cross. But nothing can replace the "Crucified Cross". No Traditions whatsoever. As I mentioned, Bishop and Church may have Canonic Rules or Myths to impose certain things. But before they do, they have the obligations to teach that and make sure the "Sabha Goats" like us are buying those myths.

-- If Bishop run a secret ballot in any church and in any mass, asking people about the opinion if teh Bishop is right or wrong in Chicago or other places, I bet 70% or more will say "Wrong". He may be correct in front of Jesus, but he definitely has an obligation to Jesus to make sure he is standing up for his "Syro Goats"

I am not an educated person in Catholic Studies to make any kind of judgement. But I am a person who beleives in peace and harmony. And I like to see people happy and smiling when they come to church atleast. Nowadays people have none other topic than discussing Cross and Sheela. The churchgoing "Goats" arer turning into "Church Foxs and Leoperds". And if things happening in Texas Church(Personally I know that it's true) is a SHAME. SHAME on us.

We are such an educated and hard working unity and we are fighting on "Cross".

Bishop - You may not read this. But if anybody read this and if you are close to him enough - Please print and give it to him.

REQUEST TO BISHOP

" We are not so relegious like you or other priests to understand and follow all these things you are askign for. And we do not disagree the fact that the things you are asking are wrong. But you have to realise one very important thing. It's very very hard situations here and many people working so hard to make the ends. And on a Sunday we are coming to Church to have some peace of mind. NOW we are NOT seeing PEACE But we are experiencing "PIECES of Christ Body" in front of the Alter on Sheela/Cross Matter.

Your Excellency, Sabha has given you the "RIGHT" and GOD has given you the "POWER". Please be as one amoung us, Please think as one among us and then please act as one among us. I know you are a pios person and you may just want to execute the right things in the right way. Somehow they are nOT right according to many - many -many people. Now it's you and ONLY you can make the correct decisions. As Jeusus said, Forgive Others and Do the RIGHT things and we know YOU WILL.

I hope I am not writing anything wrong and I do not have any intentions to do so.

I am a PEACE LOVER and I am a STRONG CATHOLIC and I am PROUD to be ONE.

Changanachery bishop wants all Catholic to send their kids to catholic schools only. But, when we look for admission he want huge amount as capitation fee. Bishop did not spend a penny in building these institutions. I was built with the peoples fund.
This church is built with the efforts of only local people, then why the bishop taking such a nasty action?
Let the bishop make a procedure on buying/ starting new church. Then people can sent it to Cardinal and dispute the stupid facts before they invest their money.
Until the building is purchased, bishop act like a nice guy then once the land and building is registered in his name, he is showing is power. Now bishop knows that only he can sell the property. Another fact is that a meeting held in Irving on saturday night under the leadership of respected pastor Fr.SAJI CHAKKITTAMURIYIL to make plans to attack bishop and force bishop to make a decision in favour of them.They put up plans like record yesterday's meeting,and vedio tape,GARAWO bishop etc... I have the recorded tape of that meeting which I will soon put it in the youtube and send it to our cardinal.

Heard a sunday school teacher
(jijo) made abusing words on bishop yesterday .my god, how this guy can teach innocent kids at church. sunday school teachers are role models for kids. Please control you anger and better don't teach kids for the sake of god.

Change is difficult , but the hierearchy missed the point of educating its people before making the changes!! If properly educated and if it made sense then the people would have asked for these Changes, but the opposite is happening here . But coming back is not defeat but it will be a real success.

Dear Bishop; be proactive and encourage the faithful in faith matters that retain and sustain the faithful with the Syro Malabar Church. Rather than reactive, be proactive for the sake of the immigrant Syro Malabar community.

Majority of the people in Chicago also do not like the Bishops spiritual attitude. He could only bring divisions to our community in Chicago. Please watch name vs. the current and previous Vicars_General and Chancellors. They all have one motto that is to install the pagan cross and idolize the Syro Malabar community in USA to satisfy the bishop.

Personally nobody is against the bishop and his crews, but faith is a serious matter, when it reaches its kernel then vast majority of the Syro Malabar faithful in USA are against the bishop’s policy. Every body initially thought that Fr. George Madathiparambil (an educated and matured veteran priest) who can lead the church, standup on issues but he is also drinking from the same dirty well.

The Bishop Angadiath and his biased advisors and very few supporters are responsible for the current serious situation of the Syro Malabar church in USA. Finally the Bishop needs to pay high prize for his wrong doing. He not only violated the fundamental US law, he has already violated many cannon laws under his authority. More than this he is draining our faith.

WHEN THE FAITHFUL DOES NOT LIKE THE PEGAN CROSS, THEN WHY THE BISHOP IS CLINGING ON IT.

THE FAITHFUL DO NOT WANT THE CONGREGATION TO BE SEPARATED BY A VEIL ALSO.

WHEN THE FAITHFUL COMES TO THE CHURCH FOR A SUNDAY MASS THEY DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE VEIL, THE DIRTY, UNHOLY SATANIC CROSS IN THE ALTER TO CHALLANANGE THE CRUCIFIX.

Listener said...: The interesting factor in the comment sections are - There is not even one supporting comment towards Bishop's view points.

In one of the masses in Chicago Cathedral, I remember Bishop gave a speech about the crosses. He taught that the "Marthoma" Kurishu is representing the resurrection of Jesus.

In Chicago Syro Malabar cathedral, currently in the middle of the crosses, there is a beautiful picture showing Jesus' Resurrection. And during the Bishop’s speech, I was wondering why do we need another cross to have the same representation.

As another gentle comment above, the leaders of USA Syro Church had already failed in explaining the needs of these new traditions. And as long as the convincing factors are not established, it does not make any sense for normal people like me to continue to believe Bishop’s needs for Sheela and Marthoma Cross.

I guess God Fearing people like me does not have the guts to point fingers against the Bishop because I am God Fearing and I feel Bishop is a appointed and represented by God like any other priest.

I wish things will end for Good so that normal people can be happy in their smaller needs.

We as a community should understand that ST Alphonsa church is an all inclusive church for all Syro Malabar catholics from kerala and that it is not exclusively for Syro Malabar catholics from certain diocese or regions of Kerala.
We had a unanimous goal to buy a church in this location.We stayed united to accomplish that.But some of us started being selfish immediately after the closing of the church and started thinking of how to impliment their own selfish unchristian,uncatholic and divisive ideology and this is wheres we started loosing our unity,peace and harmony.Let us give up our selfish agendas and work towards the common good of our St Alphonsa community.After all Alphonsamma would want us to KEEP the CHRIST that she loved and not take him out with our extremist ideologies.

Syro Malabar Faithfuls said...: One of my friens directed me to this site. I go through every single issue mention in this blog to Coppell Church. It is seen that the issue happened with Crucifix. I go to this Church, and I have never seen that anybody was against crucifix. All this happened because of the Achan and his personal Agenda. Achan being from malabar is against the "Marthoma Cross" and "Curtain".

I am only for the Crucifix. But I am against what the Achan said and doing, it was pure hatred to what Christianity teaches us. Jesus taught us to love each other and live in peace and Harmony. Tell me do you want an Achan like this to be a part of our community and teach our children and Youth the teachings of Chirist. I do not want. I think it is the personal Agenda of Saji Achan and he is pushing it down the throat of the parishioners and for this he has a group of “ GOONDAS” to support him left and right.
Many of the parishioners in Coppell are against this. I talked to many people and their comment was “we gave money and bought a biting dog” .

Bishop Angadiath got enough on this issue when he was the priest in Garland Church.He tried to push the cross issue in Coppel to overcome any obtacles he may face again in new Garland church.

We are using the same cross in holy mass everyday. Then why it cannot be permanent fixture in the church.After all see the pics of Major Arch Bishop. He is wearing the same cross as part of his holy cap.

So the issue is not the cross or Sheela.Issue is the way this guys tried to install the cross in the church.Thomachan and A.V.Thomas are the real culprits who tried to put the cross through back door.Bishop was instrumental in their hands as he thinks he can do whatever he wants.

The church is nearly going to split on this issue. For non Cross people, better to go to American Church, where they will get due respect and peace.

Unknown said...: When I go to church I don’t care what hangs out there, whether it is Marthoma Cross or the Crucifix or just a plain Altar, but what I am looking for is the presence of a loving God. What I am trying to see through these symbols, irrespective of its shapes and size, is a God who taught to love each other and even enemies. These are all just symbols try to see them the in a better way.

For me (personally) a crucifix is more meaningful as it symbolizes the extremes of God’s love for humanity. It reminds me of the extreme pain and disgrace God went through for the upliftment of human beings. For someone else it symbolizes death and death symbolize satan etc. and an empty cross symbolize risen Christ. But I am not sure which one is more important - resurrection of Christ or a God who was ready to go through the extremes the pain and disgrace. For me an empty cross is a symbol of barbarian rules which Pilate and his people used to kill Jesus. The cross is just a sign of God's unconditional love to all human beings, even when we were sinners and not God itself. It this sign has become more important than God itself then we should think whether it is time to get rid of all these status and symbols and try focusing on the core of our beliefs.

About the curtain and why some want to promote it, I have no idea. God was there in all Glory and honor from the very beginning before the creation of anything. If the church say that the unveiling of the curtain symbolize the coming of Christ in Glory, I am fine with that too.. I will see it in that sense rather than trying to think it as the absence of God. No Curtain is big enough to cover the God for sure. So I have no idea why we want to fight for these silly things as this is not going to change my belief which is God and God only.

I started going to this Coppel church recently only since I could attend the Holy mass in my mother tongue which gave me a better feeling, but if this is the case I will think twice before going back to that place (I am saying place, because I don’t think that is a church – a place known to be God’s dwelling place - anymore, but some gathering place where God’s love does not exist, but just hatred and race for power) rather will go to some English Church where people just come to pray, care their own business and live harmoniously.

To me it looks more like a fight to prove who is the BOSS rather than for any values or believes. It is like, American achayans are spending dollars and they want the church to change their way. I am damn sure that if Christ had to preach Ten Commandments today in Coppel, the people would make Him to correct the Ten Commandments according to their convenience as they will be the one spending money to support Christ.

Let them question the Bishops, priests or for that matter anyone or any rules which are absurd and not relevant and against or not in hand with our Christian beliefs, but that should not be because of the fact that they are the BOSS, the spenders. That fight should not be because someone I don’t like is in the opposite side or someone I like is supporting this. This fact alone made me not to support this move. (And I don’t support the Cross revolution church is trying to push into our beliefs either)

If you go through the history of our church, we can see that this Marthoma Cross was promoted by only a few priests as an attempt to establish their names or wanted to be distinguished by doing something special. Now it has come to a stage where it is a prestige issue of few of them. (Also, resisting that has become the prestige issue of the opposing side which I believe is the majority, but unfortunately the less powered majority) It has came to a stage where the cross and symbols are more important than the belief itself. And the day anyone start giving more importance to a cross than the beliefs, then, I think we should look back and see whether we are still eligible to proclaim ourselves as Christians. How proud should each one of us be in making the symbol of Christ’s victory now a symbol of shame to Christianity?

What is going in our Syro Malabar Diocees. Seems like it is becoming Zero faith Malabar diocees.

Our catholic faith is based on JESUS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.
Holy qurbana is celebrated as per the request of our Lord Jesus.

What we celebrate at Holy mass is all about Jesus our lord.

Christians are followers of Jesus, non of Jesus's apostles can be considered as God or even worshiped.

When you put a cross named after one apostle along with the crucifix you are denouncing your faith.

For us there is only one God Jesus. No other cross can replace or even be compared with Jesus's crucifix.

The altar with the crucifix should be kept open to all at all the time for people to pray and worship.

Altar is not a stage for drama where we need to close it for different play parts.

Maaru-thoma kurishu is supposed to be the symbol of the Syro malabar Dioceses (for some people and certain bishops), but that doesn't make it to be worthy to be placed alongside our Lord Jesu's Crucifix.

If Bishop want to show the power of Syro malabar Diocees, it can be placed outside the church.

( Like front door of the church, top of roof of the church, on the underwear of the bishop and all other priests who cares deeply abour Maaru- Thoma's Kurishu.)

Syro malabr Diocees of Chicago consists of people from all over kerala, who are worthy to be called true christians, who is standing in strong faith even disobeying our Bishop,because we are saying the church belongs to Jesus only not to Syro Malabar Diocese or St. Thomas.

There is only one Lord Jesus to be worthy to be worshiped and looked upon when we celebrate holy mass that is Jesus and Crucifix.

When we worship and celebrate mass we are celebrating Jesus and the sacrifices he made for us only.
(No Syro Malabar Diocees, No St. Thomas the founder of our kerala christian community are relevant in the altar at any time.)

God is only one, Cross became worthy because Jesus was crucified.

So for Jesus sake not take him away from the crucifix, if you do that now, later you may take Jesus away from your heart and from the church.

Is any of so called real Syro Malabar Diocians want to respond to this please do and let me know how dare you can even think about replacing or putting any other cross alongside with Crucifix.

Bishop Angadiaths decision is really hurting the believers and he is against the common interest of the Syro Malabar church in USA.
