i posted a comment recently why it takes too long to publish? you have to understand that the whole world is anxious about the developments in coppel! it is very obvious from the hit counter number. it is going very fast .pls publish the opinions as soon as possible.

We may need to involve media in this matter. Since the Chicago Bishop house is contacting all other Bishops and may be informing them that only a handfull people in Coppell are protesting against his decision....I think even this blog may not help us to achieve our goal. We really need to come up with a solid good plan to request a commission to be send here from Kerala to find out the issues and who is at fault...

The first church started in the name of St. Alphonsa is a model for all faithful people in catholic church from Kerala. Fr. Saji is a role model for all priests. Parishioners and families from other communities were greatly inspired by the growth of this church. People were expecting a lot from this church. Recent retreat by Fr. Xavier Ghan Vallayil conducted at St. Alphonsa church gave us great spiritual motivation during our journey in this difficult world. All of these good things happened because of Fr. Saji. He shouldn't be crucified for some wrong reasons. People shouldn't be discouraged by recent happenings.May God almighty give us the strength to go through this difficult situation.

can you post some video clips of the demonstrations and developments ,that are happening at coppel? people will get an idea.

Fr. Saji is a true leader and model priest who helped this community to have this beautiful church. Only because of him many people contributed. (Not forgetting the contributions of the building committee !.) .The mobilization of $1.5 million within a period of six months even in this time of recession is remarkable. Every body in Coppel knows about who is playing behind the curtains, - interfered, and obstructed many ways to prevent purchase of the church . The same people are creating problems again and the Bishop is also siding the same elements with his personal vengeance. Cross and Sheela issue is a created issue by the diocesan administration as a way to put one among them in the church as Vicar.

WE COPPEL FAITHFULL PAID THE MONEY TO BUY THE CHURCH AND WANT A CRUCIFIX IN THE ALTER WHICH WE DID.

Who is the real Syro Malabar Catholic you Decide...!!!!!

Saji Achan directly came from Kerala and started serving us here in Coppell as the Priest . But the main people in Chicago diocese came through Latin church to USA ( same way like many of us came to USA after getting a job here ) and served the Latin American community here. When the Chicago diocese was formed they all switched to Chicago diocese and got job there ( Same way as how we switch the jobs here ) and they got promotion too!!!! Now they are leading us and asking us to follow our great tradition...!!

Please follow the real Syro Malabar Catholic....

Take Over Garland said...

Guys Lets take the "Real Way" And it’s time to whow who Coppel Folks Are.

If Coppel looses the church for whatever may be the reasons, let’s take over the Garland Church. We paid and Bishop owned all the churches and we have every right to be part of all the churches in United States.

So this is what we will do
We will allow only Crucified Jesus in Garland Church. And we will remove all Sheela and other "Parambaryam from Garland Church". If others can be dirty and they can go very low, why can't we stand for our the RIGHT things.

So Ladies and Gentleman, We Coppel Catholics are announcing and we will assume all the rights to the Garland Church very soon. We will have Joji Achan or any other achan to enact in Catholic Ways and we will teach that lesson soon.

And we know 85% of the Garland people are also would like to see the crucified Jesus not the Persian Cross.

It's very pathetic to see the Bishop is acting this way and he is showing his "Rowdism" and it's our tutn to do the same and we will do it very gentle. Wait and Watch Now... It's our turn NOW.

Come On Guys...

Bring Your Ideas Towards This.
1. Nobody can call Police if we are in the Garland Church.
2. Each of us will have a Crucified Jesus picture when we attend mass there
3. We will record the evens and put it in youtube
4. We invite medias to demonstrate our simple "Gandhian" fight
5. We will finally remove the Sheela in Garland
6. We will not allow any other cross other than Crucified Jesus in Garland's new Alter.
7. We had paid 1.5 Million to Syro Malabar Bishop for the Church and he must be answerable to that. If not, we assume our 1.5 Million is paid towards Garland and we will take over that.

This is made to tarnish the image of the Father Saji who was not allowed to change the parish council minutes as requested by the Bishop.Truth will prevail soon.

kodum chadiyan.

As per this news cutting, Thamarassery Bishop Mar. Paul Chittilappilly had announced publicly that Mathai Chacko had received Sacrament with conscious. Manorama News (Calicut edition dated 15/10/07) Original Malayalam is given below.

Now if the Bishop had stressed that The person had received Sacracment when he was conscious, then Bishop must have meant that the person received “ Viaticum, the Last Sacrament of the Christian” which is explained in 1524. If It was only Last sacrament, there was no necessary to say, that it was received when the person was conscious. So, we must conclude that Bishop was meant to say Viaticum which is said in 1524 of CCC.

This must be made clear by the father who went to give sacrament. If the person who received Viaticum was not conscious how did the father gave Viaticum? Did The person confess before receiving Viaticum? If the person had not confessed, how can father gave Viaticum? How could Bishop order to give Viaticum to a person who have not confessed for long time? How did bishop and the father made sure that, the person who was receiving Viaticum had not done any mortal sin?

Now if the person had confessed, How can Bishop say that in a public meeting, that is violation of Confessional secret and Bishop would immediately loose his Bishop hood.

Had this Joseph Chacko expressed his willingness to repent and confess, when he met bishop with conscience? If not, how can bishop compel to give sacrament with viaticum to an unrepentant sinner?

I THINK BISHOP HAS VIOLATED THE SECRECY WHICH IS CONNECTED WITH THESE SACRAMENTS, AND ALSO OTHER CATHOLIC TEACHING. I ALSO THINK THAT BISHOP HAS ABUSED RELIGIOUS FEELING OF MANY CATHOLIC FOR ACHIEVING HIS POLOITICAL AGENDA. I BELIEVE ALL OTHER BISHOPS ARE GUILTY OF THE SAME.

Parish council aproved to give a gift to Fr.Saji.It includes the money this priest gave to this church from his salary.

That is the only money transfered to Fr.Saaji's account.Accountant and Old kaikaran was with new kaikaran to do this transaction.

Even Thomma,Raaji,Shiibu signed in this aproval letter with all other parish council members.

Now we dont understand why Chicago make such wrong aligations against Frr.Saaji.

Dear Parishioners,

Any way we suffered a lot, why don't we donate little more and pay to the following members
1. A V Thomas
2. Thomas Perumcherimannil
3. Reji
4. Shibu
5. Johnson
6. Saju
7. Josi
8. Sunny Nelluvely

May be couple of more. So the bad elments will be out of our church. Then we will get more members & church will grow without any problem like this. These people are thinking that they are the godfathers of this church (like kavalam in Garland). They work aganist parish during the property buying time only bacause they didn't get chance to involve their agent. We don't know how much agent offered them.

This is what is happening in our community.

Please isolate such people from every community

The Bishops Angadiath is wrong; he is not worthy to be called a shepherd of the diocese.

We should not allow a pious man, especially a good priest to be punished for his innocence. Fr. Shaji had fulfilled all criteria to get into US soil for his religious duty. The Bishop Angadiath cannot extradite Fr. Shaji and the Bishop Angadiath has no authority to do that. If the bishop is forcing him to do go back to India, then the Chicago Syro Malabar Diocese is misusing US Immigration laws for their own personal benefits and the bishop is misusing the Catholic Church as medium for that.

Even if Fr. Shaji is planning to go back to India, let him go back only after proving his innocents, otherwise he cannot regain his good reputation. The Bishop also needs to admit his arrogant and egotistic behavior and needed to confess to the public during a Sunday Mass in Coppel church for his wrong doings.

Anonymous said...

HELLO COPEL BROTHERS,

Do not waste time!!!!! The bishop Angadiath may be proactively blocking peoples message from USA by calling his buddies in India in advance. We need to stop his atrocities towards the faithful.

Please prepare a mass petition, singed by every member of the church with church ID# and FEDX to the (1) Vatican (Attention to Pope) , (2) Major Arch Bishop (Ernakulum), (3) KCBC, (4) CBCI presidents/ vice-president in India with a copy to the bishop Angadiath in Chicago.

Let us pray for the Bishop and his "followers" to get wisdom. Bishop should have attended Vattayil Achen's retreat to learn some good things. Let us all stand behind our beloved Saji Achen strongly. Even if he goes back to Kerala, the Bishop should prove the allegation raised against Saji Achen or else let the Bishop leave or retire as the Bishop.

There were controversies in early church as well.
Christianity arrived along the southern Indian Malabar Coast via Thomas the Apostle in AD 52 and from this came Thomasine Christianity. The Saint Thomas Christians are an ancient body of Christians in southwestern India who trace their origins to the evangelical activity of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century. Within India, members of these churches are sometimes known as Syrian Malabar Nasrani. The four major groups, all centred on the Malabar Coast of the Indian state of Kerala, are the Syro-Malabar, the Syro-Malankara, the Syriac Orthodox and the Mar Thoma.
Whatever their early history, from at least the 6th century the Saint Thomas Christians were part of the Church of the East, also known as the Nestorian Church, centred in Persia. In the 8th century the community was organized as one of the church's Provinces of the Exterior.
These Syrian Malabar Nasranis kept a unique Christian identity until the arrival of the Portuguese in the 17th century. The Saint Thomas Christians were greatly affected by the arrival of the Portuguese beginning in 1498. The Portuguese attempted to bring the community under the auspices of Latin Rite Catholicism, resulting in permanent rifts in the community.
The Nasranis are an ethnic people, and a single community. As a community with common cultural heritage and cultural tradition, they refer to themselves as Nasranis. However, as a religious group, they refer to themselves as Mar Thoma Khristianikal or in English as Saint Thomas Christians, based on their religious tradition flowing from the early Church of St. Thomas Christians or Saint Thomas tradition of Christianity.
However, from a religious angle, the Nasranis of today belong to various denominations as a result of a series of developments including Portuguese persecution (a landmark split leading to a public Oath known as Coonen Cross Oath), doctrines and missionary zeal influence (split of Marthoma Church (1845) and St. Thomas Evangelical Church (1961) ), Patriarch/Catholicos issue ( split of Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church (1912) ).
Throughout Kerala, one can find Christian families that claim their descent from ancestors who were baptized by Apostle Thomas. St. Thomas Christians were classified into the caste system according to their professions, in accordance with the Hindu tradition, with special privileges for trade granted by the benevolent kings who ruled the area. After the eighth century when Hindu Kingdoms came to sway, Christians were expected to strictly abide by stringent rules pertaining to caste and religion. This became a matter of survival. This is why St. Thomas Christians had such a strong sense of caste and tradition, being the oldest order of Christianity in India. The Archdeacon was the head of the Church, and Palliyogams (Parish Councils) were in charge of temporal affairs. They had a liturgy-centered life with days of fasting and abstinence. Their devotion to the Mar Thoma tradition was absolute. Their churches were modelled after Jewish synagogues.“The church is neat and they keep it sweetly. There are mats but no seats. Instead of images, they have some useful writing from the holy book.”
In short, the St. Thomas Christians of Kerala had blended well with the ecclesiastical world of the Eastern Churches and with the changing socio-cultural environment of their homeland. Thus, the Malabar Church was Hindu in culture, Christian in religion, and Judeo-Syro-Oriental in terms of origin and worship.

The fracas over the origin of the `Marthoma Cross' or `Manichaen Cross,' as it is termed by the respective factions in the Syro-Malabar Church, threatens to turn ugly. It is the decision of the Nazrani Catholica Paithruka Samrakshana Samithi to consign to flames the Manichaen symbol and the new parish council rules that lends a strong emotional touch to the issue. The consequences of the samithi's move are unpredictable. The name `Marthoma' comes from St Thomas who propagated Christianity in India while the latter term is derived from Mani, who lived in Persia in the third century and founded the Manichaen sect, a mixture of Christianity and Zoroastrianism. Incidentally, a pastoral letter of Changanassery Archbishop Joseph Powathil, the bete noire of the samithi, with an exhaustive explanation on the need to respect the `Cross' had imparted a new twist to the dispute.
According to him, the Holy Cross was a revered object in the Church from ancient times. While refuting the allegation that the Cross opposes the Crucifix, he made clear his stand for the installation of the former in the altar instead of the latter. ``The devotion to the Crucifix was propagated here only after the 16th century by missionaries. Although it is not necessary to stop venerating the Crucifix, it is clear that it cannot express the mystery of Christ fully. The cross, the symbol of resurrection, is the apt object to be installed in the altar,'' the Archbishop who wears the same cross as his pectoral cross maintained.
In this context, it has to be recalled that move to install the disputed cross in the churches of the Archdiocese of Changanassery has been creating tension.
Terming Mani as an `absurd prophet,' Archbishop Powathil contested the view that the `Marthoma Cross' was Manichaen. After the letter, which also `warned' against `those conducting misinformation campaigns,' was read on March 29,1998 in the churches of the Archdiocese, there was a flurry of activity in the rival camp. The All IndiaCatholic Association unit, Changanassery, challenged the Archbishop to prove that the cross in question was `brought' by St Thomas himself. ``Has this cross been approved by the Synod ?'' and ``If so, then why it is not being installed in the altar of churches in all dioceses?'' were among the other questions. In the opinion of Fr C J Varkey, director, Charismatic Retreat Centre, Kulathuvayal, the `Manichaen Cross,' is not to be exhibited at all in churches and altars. ``This was brought to Kerala by Mani himself. Abandoned during sixth century it surfaced as `Marthoma Cross.'
There is no dearth for varied arguments and counter arguments on the issue. But one thing is certain. As Thrissur Archbishop Jacob Thoomkuzhy said before a Synodal session, it is the duty of the Synod to remove the doubts in the minds of the faithful. Till then, the situation in the Church would continue to be volatile.

RESPONSE:
Sir, the Church is a bureaucracy which is filled with corruption. We are taught one religion is the all and end all. It's a shame religions do not try to co-exist as Christianity, Judaism, and Islam were once unified together. I still believe in Christ, however, I shall respect and embrace other beliefs. Wouldn't it be asinine if I didn't?

Going back onto the subject of discussion, I must agree our money is being spent unwisely. How's the "two houses" and "Chancellor's Office" coming along? Who makes these mind boggling decisions? How would this look if the Syro Malabar officials try to shut down St. Alphonsa? The media ought to get involved...people worked hard and paid for a Church with their own money only to be rebuked?

THE TREATMENT OF SAJI ACHEN IS SO despicable that words cannot express the amount of disappointment...I could care less about the cross, about the curtain, however, the treatment of this man (this achen) is getting for standing with the people is unacceptable!

Blunders of Bishop Angadiyath for past one week through human eyes.
No idea how it will be through God's eyes!!!!

Syro Malabar voice and fellow anonymous blogers, correct me if I am wrong. I want to be anonymous in this blog, but want to send the below note to Fr.Saji's new Bishop and CC to Chicago from my personnel mail id. After that i have to confess. But the question is to whom ??? Thank you in advance.

Maundy Thursday

Bishop : Sending Transfer letter. (Needless to say blunders in that letters.)
Parishioners: Murmuring against Bishop. Praying to Holy Spirit. No actions.

Good Friday

Bishop : Waiting for parishioners reactions.
Parishioners: Praying to Holy Spirit and Crucified Christ. No actions.

Holy Saturday

B: Freezing the Providence Bank Acct.
P: Praying to Holy Spirit and Crucified Christ and St. Alphonsa. No actions.

Easter Sunday

B: Waiting for parishioners reactions.
P: Lost control, they renovated the Alter.

Monday

B: Freezing the Chase Bank Acct.
P: Praying to Holy Spirit. No actions.

Tuesday

B: Sending order to hold their first holy mass in the renovated Altar.
P: Praying to Holy Spirit and Crucified Christ. No actions.

B: Sending some 'DECREE' saying immediate relieving order for Fr.Saji.
P: Praying to Holy Spirit and Crucified Christ and St. Alphonsa. Decided to give some money to Fr.Saji. 'We are just giving him his money back he gave us.' (This is quote from Syro Malabar voice blog)

Here comes the Ultimate Financial Allegation against Fr. Saji.in the DECREE
(Reminds me of the Malayalam proverb. People who have jaundice feel everything is yellow in color)

B: Fr. Saji has to come to Chicago to prove his innocence in Financial allegation against him.

P: No more prayers only actions.

Call to Chicago from Coppell Parish. This time orders was from Parishoners.

P: We can’t send Fr. Saji to Chicago to crucify him any more.
B: Okay.

P: Fr.Saji will celebrate the mass in the renovated Altar
B: Okay.

P: Fr. Saji will be leaving India only on April 15th as per previous decision
B: Okay.

Now here are the million dollar questions.

1. What is this Bishop doing in Chicago?
2. Value of 'DECREE' is that much only?
3. What mistake Fr.Saji did for this transfer?

Yes. I know answer for 3rd one. He know he is the scape goat he doesn't want any one else to be in his position. Because if parishioners didn't renovate the altar now, that could be reason to arise the whole issues again and his successor will end up like him. He didn’t want to happen that again. Here after no issues in the church for next 20 years. Way to go. Hats off to Fr. Sari .You are a TRUE HERO.

You are absolutely right on the series of incidents described above. There is something more to add before Maudy Thursday:
Bishop was here on a Sunday early march and had meeting to discuss about cross and sheela. Around 25 people were got time to speak in front of Bishop and all of them spoe refucing to put Marthoma cross and sheela on Altar. In the end Bishop woke up and told that he heared comments "for and against" the marthoma cross and sheela. People got wild as nobody spoke for sheela and marhoma cross during discussions.
Bishop was not waiting for any more comments, did not bothered about peoples loud voice and went to Sankeerti. After some time he came for mass in the Altar, and people did not let him to conduct the mass. They stand i the altar. Later respecting Sajiachens request for allowing bishop conduct mass, people moved away from altar, in fact most people went out of church without attending bishops mass, waiting for him to come out after mass. After the mass bishop was not coming outside the alter as people were waiting to talk to him about the same issue. But he spent more time giving some prayers for childrens
(that was just to waste time to reach his fligh timings), and later went outside the church without opening his mouth.

The following sunday Fr. Madathiparambil visited the church saying that he wanted to solve the issue. In his discussions all what he said was we should obey bishop. but no change on bishops stand. People asked Father to explain how this persian cross become st. thomas cross, and father could not explain propely. in that afternoon he went to attend the rebels meeting secretly at one house and we caught them on spot in video.

Let's say the MAR THOMA CROSS has something to do with Mar Thoma christians of kerala from 3rd century because of it's connection to the CHURCH OF THE EAST.Because CHURCH OF THE EAST is the one who inrtoduced the Persian Cross ( Mar Thomas) cross to kerala chiristians. As I understand CHURCH OF THE EAST was NON CATHOLIC.We know that Mar Thoma Christinas were forced to become catholic during the time of the PORTUGESE in Kerala.During KOONAN KURISU SATHYAM the MODERN DAY SYRO MALABAR CHRISTIANS DECIDED TO STAY WITH THE LATIN CATHOLICS.
Why did they do that , IF THEY LIKED THIS PERSIAN CROSS SO MUCH ? Why didn't they join the ORTHODOX and keep their PERSIAN CROSS.
To make the long story short, christianity in Kerala went through many changes and turmoils through out our history.

Why in the world would Bishop Powethil bring up this so called PERSIAN CROSS TURNED MAR THOMA CROSS IN THE 1990'S , LONG AFTER THE SYROMALABAR SABHA HAD SETTLED DOWN AND HAD CONSISTENCY IN THEIR CUSTOMS AND CHURCH PRACTICES.Needless to say, THE DECISION TO BRING UP THIS SO CALLED MAR THOMA CROSS WAS NOT A wise one ,WHEN FINALLY THE FAITHFULS OF SYRO MALABAR SABHA HAD BEEN LIVING IN PEACE AND HARMONY.

Bishop Powethil's decision resulted in CONFUSION,CHAOS AND RIOTS among Syro Malabar Christians.
AT LAST,
BISHOP POWETHIL WILL BE CREDITED WITH CAUSING DIVISION WITHIN SYROMALABAR SABHA,WILL BE CREDITED WITH DESTROYING THE PEACE AND HARMONY THAT THE SYRO MALABAR FAITHFUL HAD ENJOYED BEFORE THIS POWETHIL BLUNDER.

BISHOP POWETHIL,,, WAS THIS REALLY WORTH IT ??? WAS THIS REALLY NECESSARY ???
PLEASE.....PLEASE....DONT COME UP WITH ANY MORE IDEAS FOR MAKING US MORE IDENTITY,,,, FROM THAT BRAIN OF YOURS.

SYRO MALABAR RITE ITSELF IS PLENTY ENOUGH IDENTITY FOR US.

IT ONLY TAKES A PHONE CALL FROM YOU TO BISHOP ANGADIATH TO BRING ABOUT PEACE AND HARMONY TO THE SYRO MALABAR CATHOLICS OF NORTH AMERICA.

GOD BLESS ALL......FLORIDIAN

MOTHER MARY IS PROTECTING cATHOLIC CHURCH
Can you imagine any church will survive with all sex scandals&allegations if mother mary is not praying? Why Powathil dont understand that.He cannot save anybody.Rome survived during the struggle only because heaven wished keep catholic church.Powathil pithave why you get along with other oriental churches&orthodox church. If catholc church fails that will the end, you cannot do anything more.So dont take any more actions/listen to protestants concepts
hope this will enlighten at least few.

“Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. Proverbs 12:22” The Bishop cannot be forgiven on the Christian assumption of “not knowing what he was doing”

The problems were started due to the Bishops demand to re- write the parish council minutes referring crucifix issue. Subsequent events including the recent allegation of financial misappropriation are to save his face of from the original issue.

Let us recap the recent allegations .Coppell Parish got a Parish committee and this committee decided to give back what Fr.Saji contributed to the church fund plus some money as a gift to him. Thomas was against the gift and put his rejoinder.
Immediately after the meeting the news was conveyed to Chicago by none other than Thomas whose advice the Bishop send faxes to the bank for account freeze.
T
his action is only intended to tarnish the image of a noble priest and that is why the Coppell faithful united together to oppose the decision.

Now the Bishop insists to get the Parish gift back, which raises certain serious concerns on his intentions. First of all, if the money is returned it can be said that the money is from misappropriation which support the allegation. In the other hand, if it is not returned, they can claim that Fr.Saji does not obeyed the Bishop.

This is the play behind this last ordeal advised by none other than chancellor who claimed to have some postal degrees in law! Here we can safely says the expression” nemo censetur ignorare legem” means nobody is taught to ignore the law applies.

Bishop role in church affairs (Financial only) is that of a guardian or Trustee only and not as an owner. As trustee, of course he has bound to preserve the assets of the church. But at the same time it should be for the benefit of the beneficiaries, who are the parishioners. This is the legal intention put forth in the cannon law and by courts. The title to the church or bank account in his name alone gets him the position as “owner” who can freely do what ever he wants.

His actions leads to a great deal of suspicion and doubt about his honesty, reliability and trustworthiness in holding the very dignified holy position as a Catholic Bishop and.
the question is can he honestly represent and lead the Syro Malabar Catholic Church in USA that consists of layman from all parts of Kerala.

If the Parish committee and council do not have any role, other than collecting the money, do we need such committees and parish council? Let the Bishop find his own funds, buy the buildings and run the show himself, may be for a fee. This is to be considered by all the forthcoming parishes, other wise you will also got the same treatment from the diocese.

Until the parish committees got a say in financial matters rather than the “advisory only” as claimed by Bishop, please stop all church contributions, except a token check of $1.00 for every Sunday. Let the Bishop find his own funds, pay the mortgage and utlities.

PUT RASCALS TO TASK......

Based on experience of common parishoners in Chicago & Dallas,
faithfuls elsewhere should take some firm decisions. NO MORE Church Purchase EXtortions !. Let them rent out churches rather than EXTORT money from faithfuls and then mistreat them. That way parishoners will always command RESPECT from so called authorities and Pramanies. They will realise who is calling shorts. ITS a CALL FOR ACTION:SPREAD the word across USA through your Friends and relatives. E-mail them. phone them. Make it hard for Chicago to do fundraisers. We need an ECONOMIC EMBARGO and Suffaction imposed on the "CHICAGO CHEATS"

Its better to donate to some real charities in Kerala than waste your hard earned money on these fraudsters.

Visappalle-roopa-thaa:

We majority of the parishioners will only contribute when you will give in writing that you or any achens coming to this Coppell church won't try to install any other cross in the altar.

"Our altar won't be modified to include any other cross anytime", this is the guaranty we need from you before we contribute any more money to our church or Chicago diocese.
