The developments in the Coppell parish is, indeed disgusting. If the bishop had the spirit of the Apostles he could never have taken the revengeful actions against the vicar and the entire parishners.
Even if he thought that the resisting parishners are wrong in their stand on the ‘cross issue’, he could have still pardoned them as the crucifix is not against Catholic faith and also as it is accepted and erected in many dioceses of Syro-Malabar church. But it seems that he opted to satisfy his egoistic, rather than apostolic, attitude and took the path of revenge. The allegation against the vicar of misappropriation of money, his immediate dismissal and the freezing of all the parish bank accounts only show the bishop’s disregard to the Christian values of love and mercy. It is nothing but misusing the apostolic position which is given only to serve the faithful.
This should not go unquestioned. And it is heartening to know that the parishners are contemplating legal actions in this regard. In USA it would be easier to move against erring Bishops as the churches here cannot function merely under Canon Law but also under the law of the land.

The parish committee will have enough proofs-such as, minutes of the parish committee and that of the general assembly- to show that the church and its properties are bought by contributions collected from among the parishners. Even if the deal is in the name of the Bishop, it only means that the faithful of the parish entrusted him to be the 'binami' of the deal on behalf of them, as being their spiritual head. And, when he starts assuming the power of ownership by himself, then it is a breach of trust between him and the parish community. As it is also refusal of representing the communion of the faithful, ie., the church, it amounts to misrepresentation too. Now the Bishop breached the trust that the faithful bestowed upon him by acting as the sole owner by illegally freezing the bank accounts. And, it is unbelievable that this unilateral, undemocratic action of the Bishop can stand the US constitution and legal system.

Otherwise, it should be taken as an attempt of character assassination. The parish committee should be knowing all the financial dealings of the Vicar, and if they think that the allegation is designed to tarnish the Vicar’s image then it is worth moving a defamation case by the Vicar and the committee.
If Syro-Malabar faithful in America succeed in getting a court verdict in favor of restoring their legitimate rights on their church and its properties, it will be a great success to all Syro-Malabar community in Kerala and whole India.

It is indeed the right time to go to Court, as amicable solution is not and will not be possible because of the acts from the so called Higher Ups. The acts in Chicago and Coppel reveal that. The Bishop is forced to do all these things from behind. But since he declares, he will be held responsible for every split that is happening in the Name of Cross.
Even this misrepresentation happened in Chicago Church and the people's mouth were not heeded and are quietly following. people come to church to pray and have some socialization. They are fed up with the Circus in the church.

All catholics, this is the time to react againist the luxurious life of our Bishops and priests. Remember they took an oath of poverty at the time of their ordination but they are the one leading the most luxuriouslife than all of us with our hard earned money. Please stop spenting any money to the Bishop's appeal and use that money for some charity in our home country. I am not sure why this bishop is punishing a holy priest Rev. Fr. Saji, i think it is because he is standing with the majority people and leading a poor people.

The strike will start immediately after Fr. Saji's Chicgo yathra to report to Bishop.

Indications that Jesus did have a homosexual orientation:
bullet "In the Gospel of John, the disciple John frequently refers to himself in the third person as 'the disciple whom Jesus loved'." 4 One might argue that Jesus loved all of his followers in a non-sexual way. Thus to identify Jesus' love for John in a special way might indicate a sexual relationship. The disciple was "the" beloved. He was in a class by himself.
During the Last Supper before Jesus' execution, the author(s) of the Gospel of John describes how the "beloved" disciple laid himself on Jesus' inner tunic -- his undergarment. See John 13:25 and 21:20. Robert Goss, assistant professor of comparative religion at Webster University in St. Louis, LA, noted that Jesus and the beloved disciple: "... eat together, side by side. What's being portrayed here is a pederastic relationship between an older man and a younger man. A Greek reader would understand." 5

The Gospel references to "the disciple whom Jesus loved" use the word "agape." 3 Whether the authors originally used "eros" and the word was subsequently changed is open to speculation.

The problems were started due to the Bishops demand to re- write the parish council minutes referring crucifix issue. Subsequent events including the recent allegation of financial misappropriation are to save his face of from the original issue.
Let us recap the recent allegations .Coppell Parish got a Parish committee and this committee decided to give back what Fr.Saji contributed to the church fund plus some money as a gift to him. Thomas was against the gift and put his rejoinder.
Immediately after the meeting the news was conveyed to Chicago by none other than Thomas whose advice the Bishop send faxes to the bank for account freeze.
This action is only intended to tarnish the image of a noble priest and that is why the Coppell faithful united together to oppose the decision.
Now the Bishop insists to get the Parish gift back, which raises certain serious concerns on his intentions. First of all, if the money is returned it can be said that the money is from misappropriation which support the allegation. In the other hand, if it is not returned, they can claim that Fr.Saji does not obeyed the Bishop.This is the play behind this last ordeal advised by none other than chancellor who claimed to have some postal degrees in law! Here we can safely says the expression” nemo censetur ignorare legem” means nobody is taught to ignore the law applies.
Bishop role in church affairs (Financial only) is that of a guardian or Trustee only and not as an owner. As trustee, of course he has bound to preserve the assets of the church. But at the same time it should be for the benefit of the beneficiaries, who are the parishioners. This is the legal intention put forth in the cannon law and by courts. The title to the church or bank account in his name alone gets him the position as “owner” who can freely do what ever he wants.
His actions leads to a great deal of suspicion and doubt about his honesty, reliability and trustworthiness in holding the very dignified holy position as a Catholic Bishop and.
the question is can he honestly represent and lead the Syro Malabar Catholic Church in USA that consists of layman from all parts of Kerala.
If the Parish committee and council do not have any role, other than collecting the money, do we need such committees and parish council? Let the Bishop find his own funds, buy the buildings and run the show himself, may be for a fee. This is to be considered by all the forthcoming parishes, other wise you will also got the same treatment from the diocese.
Until the parish committees got a say in financial matters rather than the “advisory only” as claimed by Bishop, please stop all church contributions, except a token check of $1.00 for every Sunday. Let the Bishop find his own funds, pay the mortgage and utlities.

Coppel parishoners, I feel sad for you. But all this spirit will go away in matter of weeks. Look what happened in Chicago. When it comes to Church/Faith/Achans, words will stay in this site. It is time for Bishop to wake up and shake off bad influences around him.
Bishop's last two weeks actions and revenge are all misteps and miscalculations.
Even if you don't give any achens to Coppell church, one thing is for sure your intension of putting Claver cross in altar is never going to happen.
We majority of the parishioners will only contribute when you will give in writting that you or any achens coming to this Coppel church won't try to install any other cross in the altar.
"Our altar won't be modified to include any other cross anytime", this is the guarenty we need from you before we contribute any more money to our church or chicago diocese.
If you can not understand this, this church will be manged by Chicago only and you may need to find money for mortgage, anyway you showed us by freezing our bank accounts how cheap you are.
Now if you don't give in writting that you won't mess with our altar, you have to come up with money to manage it.

Since the fourth century, the Roman Catholic Church has been developing regulations that have had some influence on secular (non-church-related) legal procedures. These regulations are called canons and are codified in the Code of Canon Law (in Latin, Codex juris canonici).
Some experts had interpreted the laws about financial matters and assets as follows.
" The assets of the Church are trust property for the benefit of its whole community. It is, therefore, only fair that the community should participate in the administration of those assets and be informed about transactions involving those assets."
Canon law requires parishes to appoint a finance council and undergo audits , said the Rev. Phillip Brown, an assistant professor of canon law who specializes in church property and finances at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Row over `Mar Thoma Cross' may take unholy turn

KOCHI, April 23: The fracas over the origin of the `Marthoma Cross' or `Manichaen Cross,' as it is termed by the respective factions in the Syro-Malabar Church, threatens to turn ugly. It is the decision of the Nazrani Catholica Paithruka Samrakshana Samithi to consign to flames the Manichaen symbol and the new parish council rules on May 7 that lends a strong emotional touch to the issue. The consequences of the samithi's move are unpredictable. The name `Marthoma' comes from St Thomas who propagated Christianity in India while the latter term is derived from Mani, who lived in Persia in the third century and founded the Manichaen sect, a mixture of Christianity and Zoroastrianism. Incidentally, a pastoral letter of Changanassery Archbishop Joseph Powathil, the bete noire of the samithi, with an exhaustive explanation on the need to respect the `Cross' had imparted a new twist to the dispute.
According to him, the Holy Cross was a revered object in the Church from ancient times. While refuting theallegation that the Cross opposes the Crucifix, he made clear his stand for the installation of the former in the altar instead of the latter. ``The devotion to the Crucifix was propagated here only after the 16th century by missionaries. Although it is not necessary to stop venerating the Crucifix, it is clear that it cannot express the mystery of Christ fully. The cross, the symbol of resurrection, is the apt object to be installed in the altar,'' the Archbishop who wears the same cross as his pectoral cross maintained.
In this context, it has to be recalled that move to install the disputed cross in the churches of the Archdiocese of Changanassery has been creating tension.
Terming Mani as an `absurd prophet,' Archbishop Powathil contested the view that the `Marthoma Cross' was Manichaen. After the letter, which also `warned' against `those conducting misinformation campaigns,' was read on March 29 in the churches of the Archdiocese, there was a flurry of activity in the rival camp. The All India Catholic Association unit, Changanassery, challenged the Archbishop to prove that the cross in question was `brought' by St Thomas himself. ``Has this cross been approved by the Synod ?'' and ``If so, then why it is not being installed in the altar of churches in all dioceses?'' were among the other questions. In the opinion of Fr C J Varkey, director, Charismatic Retreat Centre, Kulathuvayal, the `Manichaen Cross,' is not to be exhibited at all in churches and altars. ``This was brought to Kerala by Mani himself. Abandoned during sixth century it surfaced as `Marthoma Cross.'
There is no dearth for varied arguments and counter arguments on the issue. But one thing is certain. As Thrissur Archbishop Jacob Thoomkuzhy said before a Synodal session, it is the duty of the Synod to remove the doubts in the minds of the faithful. Till then, the situation in the Church would continue to be volatile.

Kaduppan's voting percentage jumped from 29 to 33 in few hours.It was 72% against him this morning and it is now 66%.That means when he got 52 votes today 5 votes polled against him.That is not right.It cannot be that way.Something is not right.
Kaduppan and party is very frantic and canvassing for votes.If they don't care about this blog why his party is so concerned.
