- More than a month has passed since the news came out in public media (See links: Cath News USA or Cathnews Asia/Battle of Crucifix vs. the Cross) about the battle of the Crucifix that was fought and won at the St. Alphonsa Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas, USA. Praise be to Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior! The June 15, 2010 response letter from Fr. Sajy Chakkittamuriyil responding to the allegations made by the Bishop, His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath clearly points out that the allegations made by the Bishop were for the most part false. In spite of this, to this day, there has been no regrets, apologies or admissions by the Chicago Syro Malabar Bishop, His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath about the gross injustice perpetrated against Rev. Fr. Sajy. In this context, based on the Word of God, I would like to offer the following humble advice to the Bishop as well as the other Catholic Church hierarchical authorities trekking the same misguided path. A Most Humble and Godly Advice to His Excellency, Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath In Prov. 10:10 we read: "He who winks at a fault causes trouble, but he who frankly reproves promotes peace." Since there has been no attempt on your part and others who stood with you or looked the other way when so many atrocities and injustices were being committed against Fr. Sajy Chakkittamuriyil, the situation at St. Alphonsa Catholic Church has not much improved even after the illegal firing of Rev. Fr. Sajy and his subsequent deportation to India once again verifying the truth of what the Word of God says in Prov. 10:10. In Ps. 32:3-4 David describes his mental agony which he experienced after he committed the sin of adultery with Bathsheba (see 2 Sam. 11) and hid his sin for more than a year hoping that everything is going to be okay as time went on. He says that when he kept silent, his bones wasted away and he groaned all day long and his strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. I am sure unfortunately whoever had a part in the firing and deportation of Rev. Fr. Sajy must be experiencing similar mental agony even as we speak!! My most sincere and humble advice to your Excellency, Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath and others who played a role in this act of injustice that was carried out against Rev. Fr. Sajy is to admit your mistakes and apologize to Rev. Fr. Sajy and the parishioners and above all to God Almighty for the travesty of justice that has occurred. As long as you and your accomplices are not willing to do this, God will not answer any of the prayers offered by you or on your behalf by other priests in the Diocese. This is evident from Is. 1:15-17 where we read as God saying: "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make ourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, .....
- Again in Amos 5:21-22 God says: "I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them." Again in Mt. 5:23-24 Jesus Himself says: "If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift." A Word of Advice to those who Stood for Justice (and the Crucifix): In Rom. 12:18-19 St. Paul tells us: "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay' says the Lord." Then in Rom. 15:7 we read: "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." Let us follow what the Word of God says in these verses and be kind and forgiving towards our Bishop and our fellow parishioners who stood against Fr. Sajy and the Crucifix. Here, by no means am I recommending that we should allow them to remove the crucifix and permit them to place the Mar Thoma Cross in its place. We should continue to stand for our faith and the Crucifix no matter what the cost even in the future -- as long as we are alive. But as soon as the Bishop and our pastor reinstate the bank accounts to the same status as in other parishes, we should stop protesting and start tithing and supporting the St. Alphonsa Catholic Church financially. A Battle Cry for All Catholics — Fight for your Faith, Fight for the Crucifix Based on Jn. 3:14, the crucifix is Biblically based. In fact, it is the only statue in our church that can be justified as God prohibited the carving of anything in the sky above, on earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; you shall not bend down before them or worship them (Ex. 20:4-5)." On the other hand, the Crucifix has its Biblical basis as we read in Jn. 3:14: "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." Here Jesus is saying that his Crucifix would be instrumental in the salvation of mankind in the very same way the bronze snake erected on a pole was instrumental for escaping death from snake bites by any Israelite looking at the bronze snake erected on the pole by Moses. In the same way, when we look at the body of Jesus on the crucifix with faith, we also will be saved according to Jesus. Thus Crucifix is a precious precious gift from God for the salvation of mankind and its origin is from God unlike the Mar Thoma Cross. The Mar Thoma Cross is clearly a man-made object and for this reason, it can never come even remotely close to deserving our worship or veneration in comparison with the Crucifix. Anything which man makes to replace what God has given as a gift for our worship is an idol. For this reason, the Mar Thoma Cross is clearly an idol. Promoting it to the extreme extent of even replacing the Crucifix in Catholic churches world-wide whether Syro Malabar or not should therefore be fought at all cost. We should never allow the symbol of our salvation to be replaced by an idol. We will be doomed for all eternity if we allow this trickery of Satan to take hold within the Catholic Church. Another reason why Mar Thoma Cross should be banned from every Catholic Church at all costs especially when the local Bishop instructs the parishioners and the pastor to place it in the central location of the sanctuary is what Jesus says in Mt. 12:25. Here Jesus says: "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand." Does anyone of you want the Catholic Church not to stand. Does anyone of you want the ruin of the Catholic Church? I am sure, in the same breath, you will answer "No". If this is the case, now that a small minority of the Bishops within the Syro Malabar Segment of the Catholic Church is determined to fight against the Crucifix which has stood for centuries and centuries and to replace it with an idol, the so-called "Mar Thoma Cross", we should all fight against it to defeat it entirely and completely. Remember what Paul says in Gal. 5:9: "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough." We should fight tooth and nail to defeat all Satanic forces like the Mar Thoma Cross which is nothing but an instrument of Satan to bring about division and confusion and hatred within the Catholic Church as we have already seen within the past few years since the promotion of the Mar Thoma Cross started. We should not allow the Catholic Church to fall into ruins as warned by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself by allowing the few Syro Malabar Catholics along with their misguided bishops to promote the Mar Thoma Cross. As the Battle of the Crucifix v. the Cross shifts from Alphonsa Church to the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Garland (another Syro Malabar Church in the Dallas area), and then on to the Syro Malabar Cathedral Church in Chicago and finally on to the entire Catholic Church across the globe, I invite all Catholics and the Public Media to unite to rescue the Catholic Church as its survival is at stake. Stand united until Satan is defeated completely and once for all. At the same time, let us pray for our beloved Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath and others who like him have been totally misguided in this extremely important matter of our Faith. Remember what Paul tells us in Gal. 6:14 (Let us not boast not in anything other than the cross of Jesus Christ by which we have been crucified to the word and the world to us).

One small event of creating new bank account is not enough to start supporting the money worshipping Chicago diocese.
This is because there were many events with long lasting effects that took place in the past few months:
1. Firing of Fr.Saji.
2. Accusing Fr.Saji of fraud.
3. Spreading lies about Fr.Saji in Kerala.
Freezing the bank account is a small event. The three items listed above are much more serious.
In addition to opening bank account:
1. All financial transactions that took place in 2010 in Coppell church bank acconts must be posted on notice board.
2. Coppell church account must be audited and control must be handed over to coppell parish council.
3. All money stolen by Chicago diocese from Coppell church account must be returned to Coppell church.
Atleast Tom Varkey Showed the courage to publish his name this time. He used to write Oomakathu to parish members.

Houston Crucifix battle
Two days before the blessing of the Houston church the bishop secretly instructed the Sisters (there were Kerala nuns doing the sacristy work there) to install the controversial cross on the altar.
But the people who (Mr. T and others) spent money on the renovation knew the plan in advance.
They spent two days to find a crucifix and they set the crucifix on the altar just before the blessing (told the bishop to shut up)!
I sympathize with the bishop for this blinding blow - he should have learned from it; but did not.
Later, he played the same failed trick in Coppell; now he can’t get out of it!
Houstonians have had back bones.
That’s why there was not much noise there at that time.
BUT Fr. Zacharia then Chancelor made a lot of accusations against the Houstonians then.
They did not heed to the lamentations of Fr. Zacharia accusing Houstonians of giving “pains” to the bishop.
Now we can solve the puzzle partially about the Houston Crucifix.
I know the fact that when Fr. Johnson came to Houston, there was no active SMC community.
There were about 4 or 5 unions. However, Fr. Johnson was able to unit all into one and bought the church.
He has modified the church into a beautiful one after IKE.
Is the Crucifix caused Fr. Johnson's transfer and he got humiliated during his last days at Houston?
As of now I did not knew what went wrong, and why Fr. Johnson got transferred... Now I got it.
So, Fr. Saji is the second one getting into trouble due to Crucifix?
Bishop is doing all these through backdoor deals with help of some position seekers and backbone missing jerks.
This has to stop, no more Marthoma cross and kaldaayavalkaranam in SMC churches in US.

Depositing the money from all churches into one Syro bank account is a great idea.

I'm not too well versed in botany, but I think grape is a plant family. It's fruits are often sweet, sometimes sour, and sometimes bitter.
We all like the sweet ones. The sour type will become sweet if you it gets enough warmth and time (like room temp for few days). But the bitter ones don't become sweet.
So, being born in "Nalla kattholika Kudumbam" doesn't mean much. Become a "Nalla kattholikan". Live as a "Nalla kattholikan". It doesn't matter whether you are laity or clergy. Everyone should respect eveyone else, because we are all God's children.

I agree with that. Bishop also need to obey Cardinal and Pope.If you think Any SMC Bishop is not obeying Cardinal and Pope you can contact them and let them know!

The syro-malabar church in usa must be for the people of God,-people from Kerala. There are three vows for Priests and Bishops, Obedience, poverty and chastity, they they do take (especially in usa) the Obedience seriously but not the other two, in fact the motivating factor is Money, though that they told God will look after them. In Phonenix, for example they want a church, now that they have money they are BUYING CHURCH WITH MONEY. There are no spirituality and holiness. Interesting things is Priest came to know that community is not happy about his words and actions. So when he has to sell the tickets ( here come the Money , the Dollar , Uncle Sam) for ‘akkara kazhcha” , he came with a new trick of inviting community leader from the East valley for a meeting and informing that he is willing to Celebrate Holy Mass in Gilbert /Mesa.. Nothing happened so far , other than Priest and his team came to the families in East valley and taken “Dollars” as contribution , which is going to use to buy the Church. What a shame…(As mention by another reader regarding Coppell church “ stop giving money / dollars , then authorities are going to listen”, may be a good advise for people in Arizona and other states).
Now Priest it telling that every one needs to bless their house every year , even though lots of SMC families don’t have that tradition. What is the intension? “Spiritual or material”.
Whether the authorities in Chicago are here to address the spiritual need of the SMC community?

You told it right dear... Just for People who don't know about the history of SMC in Arizona..
AZMCC started co-ordinating Mallu catholics in Arizona.. Things were going ok , then local Mallu priest get involved with it " especially after the turn around for the "spiritual retreat".. Then things got worse, when mission was registered with Chicago( without considering the wider opinion of the community member), which lead to the division of the community, and lots of conflicts including physical altercation. AZMCC continued to arrange Holy mass for the people who were not going to the Phoenix mission (50 families). Authorities try their best to stop Holy Mass and other spiritual activities, which made the community stronger and stronger and the authorities felt threaten by it .Latter few people brought a new concept " we have to go by SMCC Easy Valley in order to get a Holy Mass in Malayalam every month in East side of Phoenix ". (Conspiracy starts here, when looking back ‘the brain child” behind the “ few people” whether had a plan to divide the community and destroy the harmony and faith for some personal gain, which can be debated latter). East valley includes , Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe and Chandler , and Gilbert which is 40 miles away from the mission in Phoenix with 50 families majority with small children. (The current membership in Phoenix is only in between 40-50, way down from being more than 100 families in the mailing list from past. (What a growth!). ) People thought they were asking some think reasonable, i.e. having atleast one Holy mass in East Valley. So they contacted the Authorities in Chicago and got the assurance that their needs will be addressed and things will be different because a new priest is going to be appointed soon. The new Priest was invited and provided an opportunity to know about the needs of the community and the Priest left with the promise that “let me study more about the community and I cannot do any thing about what happened in the past , let’s start first". He also requested the community not to arrange any more Holy mass , and the community assured him the same. What a great study, next week Priest started Holy Mass every week in Phoenix. If he had that plan why he doesn’t inform the community right away? What a great way to inflict more wound to the families. The SMCC East Valley was broad enough to coordinate and arrange the Carol (2008) for every one, which includes the families who not the member of SMCC East Valley and invited the Priest , thinking that it will lead to “ unity among the community”. The priest attempt to tell / inform “others” that this is some thing he did. With the spirit of Christmas the community was ready to forgive him and move forward. So again the Priest was invited for the “ way of the Cross” , given an opportunity to resolve the problem and unite together. He left again saying “for the formation of the kids we need a church, once we have a church we can have Mass in East valley”. (So buying a Church is important, not addressing the needs of the community) .Left threatening that “I am not going to let any one else to address the spiritual needs of Arizona, while I am here”. My humble request to the Coppell parishioners,
I was watching Frisco Roy for the last few months. He never attend the mass and never bring his family to the church. He always stand in the corridor and looking all the teenage girls and ladies. Somebody from the church Authorithy should stop him from this nasty activities.
When we came to take cofee on last Sunday after the mass, myself & my wife heard all the bad words telling by Kurangan Roy. This is a church and everybody should behave in the church in a spiritual atmosphere. You mad stupid, get lost from this church.

Went to english church recently for a change..It was truly a good experience.It felt good that I did not have to worry about any crucifix vs mar thoma cross.
I know as malayalees,we are so stuck on the syromalabar brand.
But it is not bad at all, you get the SAME BENEFITS BUT MINUS THE POLITICS, from the english latin mass also. You don't ever have to worry that they will change the TRADITIONAL EVERY DAY PRAYERS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MASS EITHER.
People were very pleasant towards each other.NO PROFANITY AT THE CHURCH.
YOU ALL JUST NEED TO HAVE AN OPEN MIND. IT IS NOT HARD TO LEARN THE ENGLISH MASS.IT is WAY BETTER THAN THE MANGLISH MASS.NOBODY HUNG AROUND OUTSIDE THE CHURCH EITHER.NOBODY RECORDED ACHAN'S HOMELY EITHER.

#96, Good, We need to learn lot of things from Latin church.Especially Their discipline during the mass.In our church late comers make lot of distraction. Also I notice people walking out during mass often. If some body have to do that stay back seat.
I really impress with their choir.The instruments they using for the choir are very appropriate for mass and prayer.That doesn't mean we have to change our traditional musical instruments.But we can use it with more efficiency.
In the words of St. Augustine, singing should help to pray with double efficacy. We should bear in mind that there is difference between liturgical music and an orchestra. Some noisy instruments used in orchestra are not at all suited to the atmosphere of a church nor does it help prayer. Such instruments drown the voice of the faithful, besides becoming a hindrance to prayer.
So it always better to learn good things from English church and make necessary change in our current way!

We are not struck with syro malabar. We have the right to change. In garland few years back one member changed to malamkara.
If 100 of us send application to rome requesting that we want move to latin from syro malabar
then rome at least will start an inquiry and all these will come to their attention.

How did Malayalam church pickup the trend of loud music during mass? It is not like that in our church in Kerala. May be it is the Dollar effect?
Malayalam church has band concert during mass. English church has choir music during mass. The difference is, high volume makes music in Malayalam church winds up people. It raises blood pressure. Choir music has a soothing and calming effect.
But what's the use; Malayalam churches have stooped down to the level of a Bazar.

Dear Friends of the Crucifix and Others,
I am appalled to see some of the respondents to my article The Battle Over Crucifix Shifts from Alphonsa Church to the Entire Catholic Church addressing the Crucifix issue accusing me of writing oomakkathukal (anonymous letters) in the past. The fact is that never in the past have I done it – not even once. The reason why you bring such allegations against me is given in Jn. 8:44 by Jesus Himself. Being a lover of the Crucifix, I love you too much even to enter here what Jn. 8:44 says. Therefore, I let you find out for yourself. All what I can say is that according to Jesus, ‘from the fruit, you shall know the tree’. Not making false accusations is not typically something the supporters of the Crucifix would do although there may be rare exceptions. And the reason is that we take our marching orders from the one hanging on the Crucifix. Our marching orders are found in 1 Pet. 2:12: “Live such good lives among the pagans that though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” If we also falsely accuse, we will bring dishonor to the one we see on the Crucifix. It will also defeat the very purpose for which we are fighting the Crucifix Battle.
For those of you who falsely accuse and use vulgar language in the comments that you write in this blog, I have a stern warning for you from the Lord Jesus Christ taken from Mt. 12:36: “I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken.” If this is true, just imagine what kind of punishment you will have to face for false accusations and slander which are not only careless words but are carefully designed character assassination tools! My humble advice to you is to always remember what the Super Apostle Peter says to us in 2 Pet. 3:13-14: “In keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth the home of righteousness. Since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” Now you know why my partners and I fight so hard FOR the Crucifix and AGAINST the so-called Satanic Mar Thomas Cross which our Syro Malabar Catholic authorities are thrusting upon us and ramping down our throats. It is nothing short of a war between the forces of good evil headed by Jesus Christ and Satan respectively. Probably this is why the followers of Mar Thoma Cross raise false allegations on others as the commentators in this blog have done accusing me of writing oomakkathu and perhaps also why His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath made so many false allegations against Rev. Fr. Sajy all in the name of defending the Mar Thoma Cross.
Last but not the least, can I make a humble plea to everyone writing comments on this blog? Let us refrain from slandering and mudslinging others. Let us write comments on this blog which are informative, educational and edifying (for building up others and not for tearing down others). Let us not vulgar language (thery) while writing about anyone much less the Church authorities. By this I do not mean that we have to follow their misguided directives with regard to the Crucifix and other matters which are against the Word of God. I hope that at least some of you will take this advice seriously and act on it.
