The Syro-Malabar Church is facing immense challenges today to say the least. Surprisingly the solution is a very simple one. What is needed is a two-pronged plan. To explain this two-pronged plan, I have to tell you a story that supposedly took place in a convent in Kerala.
As she does every year, this time also the day after her subordinate nuns got back from their summer vacation, she placed a large plastic tank in the center of the main room of her convent. She filled the tank about a foot high with holy water. Then she gave instructions to the other nuns. She asked them to dip in the holy water whatever part of the body they used to sin while they were on vacation. After giving them this instruction, she quietly sat in the tank with her behind touching the bottom of the tank as the other nuns one by one immersed their hand, feet, eyes, and so on in the holy water. Even though it may have been a little unclear as to what kind of sins the other nuns committed, in the case of Mother Angela, it was quite clear what kind of sin she committed and which part of her body she used.
In my analysis based on the Word of God, the cause of all the problems in the SMC is the lack of holiness in our Church. This is what I also have to say to the SMC as a solution to fix today’s problems in the Syro-Malabar Church. We must sanctify our SMC Community by doing two things. First we MUST reinstate the Crucifix and use it as a means to obtain forgiveness of our sins by using it just as Moses used the bronze serpent. This is the command from Jesus that we must obey. As long as we do not do this and keep on replacing it with ‘Mar Thoma Crosses of all sizes, we will make the LORD more and more angry and we ourselves will become more and more unholy. To get out of this trap, we need to hold on to what can make us holy by obtaining forgiveness of our sins and removing from our places of worship what makes us more and more holy.
Holding to what makes us holy by obtaining forgiveness of our sins is where the example of Sister Angela comes in. Even though I do not agree with her method nor do I recommend it, her idea of pursuing forgiveness of the sins of her fellow nuns is central to sanctifying the SMC. For this, we must hold on to the Crucifix and remove the Mar Thoma Cross which destroys our holiness. By holding on to the Mar Thoma Cross, we become unholy just as Achan desecrated the entire Israeli nation by keeping for himself some things devoted for destruction. The method I am suggesting consists of reinstating the Crucifix in all our places of worship and removing all forms of the ‘Mar Thoma Cross’. This is the first thing that needs to happen.
In an effort to get a deeper understanding about what I am trying to say here, let us compare what Sister Angela in our story did to what Bishop Powathil and Angadiath are doing in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church today by imposing the Mar Thoma Cross on their innocent congregations. Stubbornly and systematically they have rejected the means for us to get absolution for our sins which Christ has given to us. According to Jesus, the Crucifix is to be used by us to restore our spiritual life when we become spiritually dead through our sins. This is the purpose of the Crucifix according to Jesus and this is what He meant when He asked us to lift Him up as Moses lifted up the bronze serpent. Instead of using this Jesus-given method for obtaining forgiveness of our sins, our Syro-Malabar hierarchy including Bishop Angadiath, Bishop Powathil and His Beatitude George Alenchery are all focused on getting rid of the Crucifix which is so very wrong. What they are asking us to do is like telling a diabetic patient to eat 10 pounds of sugar a day to cure his diabetes. This must be stopped immediately if we want to sanctify our SMC.
The secondd step is to decrease sin in our midst. This is where the Holy Eucharist comes in. In 1 Sam. 15:22 we read that ‘obedience is better than sacrifice.’ Whenever we receive communion pledging our allegiance to the idolatrous ‘Mar Thoma Crosses’, we “are receiving Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner due to our disobedience and we will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord (1 Cor. 11:27).” By removing the Crucifix from our altars and churches and replacing them with the ‘Mar Thoma Cross’, our bishops and priests are not only removing the instrument by which we are to get remission from our sins but are also making us commit a very serious sin by forcing us to receive Holy Eucharist “in an unworthy manner.” This too must stop if we want to sanctify our SMC.
In Jn. 13:27 we read about what happened to Judas when he received the Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner. There we read: “As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.” Whenever we receive the Holy Eucharist after collaborating with those who install the idolatrous ‘Mar Thoma Cross’ in our churches, we have reason to believe that Satan is entering into our hearts just as it once entered Judas. This is also true in the case of all the priests who promote the Mar Thoma Cross and place it in their churches against the command of Jesus in Jn. 3:14 and against the directives of the Synod. This is the root cause of all the maladies within our Syro-Malabar Church today. In Mt. 12:33 Jesus said: “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.” The ‘Syro-Malabar Church tree’ is being made worse and worse for the two reasons I stated above: 1) Its only source for getting remission for its sins namely the Crucifix is being taken away in increasing numbers; and 2) the Syro-Malabar hierarchy and the congregation are becoming worse and worse every day by receiving the Holy Eucharist “in an unworthy manner” by receiving it in disobedience to Jesus Christ after violating His command in Jn. 3:14.
Our priests and bishops have long forgotten that “obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Sam. 15:22). The result is that the more they receive the Holy Communion, the closer their character is resembling that of Satan because they are receiving the Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner. Thus our priests continue to tell lies after lies from their pulpits and even lie under oath in civil courts of law bringing enormous shame to Jesus Christ whom they claim to serve. Their focus in life are material things such as swimming pools, BMW’s, etc. Our problems within SMC will be fixed in a heartbeat if only we completely get rid of the Mar Thoma Cross idol from our churches and reinstate the Crucifix. Then our Syro-Malabar Church will soon be restored spiritually “as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless” (Eph. 6:27) well-deserving of her bridegroom, Jesus Christ. And all the problems in the SMC will soon melt away in front of our very eyes. If His Beatitude George Alenchery thinks he can fix these problems in any other way like Bishop Angadiath and other so-called spiritual pundits in the Syro-Malabar Church have been trying in the past, “claiming to be wise, he too will become a fool” as we read in Rom. 1:22.

The congregation want crucifix in the Altar; we need crucifix in every altar, otherwise we will install. The faith is not patent/copyrights of any Bishops or priests, it is our birth right and as a catholic we, the faithful have the right to demand for a crucifix in the Altar and if the church authorities fail to comply with our requests, we will install the crucifix.

It is just a foolery to say "do not contribute to Chicago". Only fools have done that so far. Where are you? You contribute to Syro, you are 'zero'. You are anti catholic.
There was a group of people in Philadelphia who used to fight against Zero foolery. The pastor here (Melepuram)is a wise guy. He stayed patient. He waited for his chance. He gave all the 'renegades' positions in the church. He made Tomy, the 'Blogger' a 'Trusty'. Joseph Mundakkan who resigned his Trustyship later licked father Meleppuram's feet and got his position back. Now there is no problem in Philadelphia Syro Church. Every thing is smooth. I appreciate Meleppuram. A real smooth operator! This is an example to be followed by other achans in syro church in USA.

22 യേശു: “ഇനി ഒരു കുറവു നിനക്കുണ്ടു; നിനക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും വിറ്റു ദരിദ്രന്മാർക്കു പകുത്തുകൊടുക്ക; എന്നാൽ സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിനക്കു നിക്ഷേപം ഉണ്ടാകും; പിന്നെ വന്നു എന്നെ അനുഗമിക്ക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
23 അവൻ എത്രയും ധനവാനാകകൊണ്ടു ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടു അതിദുഃഖതിനായിത്തീർന്നു.
24 യേശു അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു: “സമ്പത്തുള്ളവർ ദൈവരാജ്യത്തിൽ കടക്കുന്നതു എത്ര പ്രയാസം!
25 ധനവാൻ ദൈവരാജ്യത്തിൽ കടക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ ഒട്ടകം സൂചിക്കുഴയൂടെ കടക്കുന്നതു എളുപ്പം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27 നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കർത്താവിനെ നീ പൂർണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടും പൂർണ്ണാത്മാവോടും പൂർണ്ണശക്തിയോടും പൂർണ്ണമനസ്സോടും കൂടെ സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നും കൂട്ടുകാരനെ നിന്നെപ്പോലെതന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നും തന്നെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

സീറോ മലബാര് സഭക്ക് വേണ്ടത് ആലഞ്ചേരിപ്പിതാവിന്റെ ചെപ്പടി വിദ്യകളല്ല, ഈശോ പറഞ്ഞു തന്ന വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ മാര്ഗമാണ്.
ആലഞ്ചേരിപ്പിതാവിന്റെ ചെരിപടി വിദ്യകളൊന്നും വിലപോകുകയില്ല.

അതുപോലെയാണ് ആലഞ്ചേരിപ്പിതാവിനെ സീറോ മലബാര് സഭയുടെ താക്കോല് ഏല്പ്പിച്ചത് നശിപ്പിക്കാനല്ല, മരിച്ചുപോയ ക൪ധിനാളിന്റെ സീറോ മലബാര് സഭയെ അതുപോലെ തന്നേ കാത്ത് സൂക്ഷിക്കാനാണ്.
I agree with Pippiladan that Jesus didn't say we should pray before crucifix to reach "nithia jeevan". If we are following the quotes in his mail, then why we need to pay money to church?. It is not a secret that Pippiladan has a secret agenda. He posted this comment out of context just to say "കുരിശിന്റെയും ക്രൂഷിതരൂപത്തിന്റെയും മുന്പില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കാന് പറഞ്ഞില്ല". Sorry, Pippiladan. You are not following your own advise when you quote Bible out-0f-context to prove your point. I agree that Jesus never asked to "കുരിശിന്റെയും ക്രൂഷിതരൂപത്തിന്റെയും മുന്പില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കാന്". But what did he say about prayer or what did he do when he prayed?. You are not saying anything abut that but try to achieve your secret agenda against the crucifix. Jesus prayed alone, as he said people should not in public. He never prayed in churches (synagogues) and never asked us to go to church (synagogue) to pray.

Pippiladan seems to be completely confused. I have not seen a single argument in your entire commentary as to why Jesus’ command in Jn. 3:14 for us to lift up the Son of Mon just as Moses lifted the bronze serpent’s image. We should never quote Bible verses for justifying the disobedience of another Bible verse in the Bible. Here that is exactly what you are doing. I am still waiting to hear a single verse that you can quote to me why it is OK to disobey Jn. 3:14. You will not find it. If you find one and you are able to justify disobedience of Jn. 3:14, that is a sign that you are misinterpreting the Bible or overlooking another verse which will support Jn. 3:14. Because God will never contradict Himself in His Word. If you feel that He is contradicting Himself, that means you are overlooking some other related verses on the Bible that corroborates it.
In Hebr. 6:7-8 we read: “Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.” You can interpret the Bible to justify your disobedience which is never right. We should never disobey any verse in the Bible nor should we interpret any verse to justify the disobeying of another verse as Pippiladan is now doing. Jesus said in Mt. 5:17-18: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the law until everything is accomplished.” Of course certain commands in the Old Testament have been modified by Jesus Christ in which case we are obligated to obey the modified version of that command that Jesus is giving us.

What happened to Pippiladan is exactly what happened to the Pharisees. In Mt. 12:1-2 they accuse Jesus saying that His disciples were breaking Sabbath when they saw the disciples going through the grainfields on the Sabbath and picking some heads of grain and eating them. So they accused Jesus by saying: “Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath” (Mt. 12:2). Where the Pharisees went wrong was that they were overlooking another verse in the Bible quoted in Mt. 12:7 by Jesus: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” Jesus tells them that if they had known what these words mean, they would not have condemned the innocent. In this case, the Pharisees were overlooking 12:7. I challenge Pippiladan to quote me a Bible verse that justifies disobeying Jn. 3:14. It is not possible because as I said earlier, our God is not a God of contradictions.
My humble advice to Pippiladan is once again that as we read in Acts 5:32 God gives the Holy Spirit to those who obey His Word and not to those who are able to come with excuses and justifications for their disobedience which is what Pippiladan is now doing. Remember what we just read from Hebr. 6:7-8. The same rain produces two different kinds of results. One land produces good crops which is useful for the farmer and therefore such a land is going to be blessed. But there is the other kind of land which may be the next plot of land but it uses that rain to produce thorns and thistles. Pippiladan can simply obey Jn. 3:14 and be blessed by God. Or you can produce thorns and thistles by disobeying Jn. 3:14 and coming up with excuses and arguments for disobeying it. In this second case the fate of the land that produces thistles and thorns awaits you and the rest of the claver maniacs who disobey Jesus’ command in Jn. 3:14. Your fate is stated in Hebr. 6:8: “Land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.” The question that you and everybody else who is violating Jn. 3:14 needs to answer is whether you want to be blessed by God or be burned by God by the eternal fires of hell. Choice is yours depending on whether you choose to obey Jn. 3:14 or you choose to come up with excuses to disobey it. If you disobey it, you can never receive Holy Spirit. In this case, you do not belong to Christ as we read in Rom. 8:9: “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” That is why one who disobeys Jn. 3:14 and holds on to the Claver Cross will burn in the eternal fires of hell.

You are saying I lost the point. But be more specific. Tell me one verse in the Bible that tells you and me that it is OK to disobey the command of Jesus in Jn. 3:14. Then I will agree with what you are saying. It is easy to say somebody is wrong. But it takes much more than that to say why somebody is wrong based on the Bible. In The Bible every verse is to be obeyed. Otherwise you are like the Pharisees accusing Jesus that His disciples were violating Sabbath as I quoted from Mt. 12 in my response to Pippiladan. I am still waiting for a verse from you or from Pippiladan that justifies your disobeying Jn. 3:14. Once again I am emphatically saying every verse in the Bible is to be obeyed including Jn. 3:14 whether you are a claver maniac or a follower of the true cross of Jesus Christ which is the Crucifix. If you don't, then you are guilty of being like the land that produces thistles and thorns and you will be burned in verlasting fire. I did not say it, the Word of God in Hebr. 6 which I quoted in my response to Pippiladan says. Anyway brother, I love you. And I want you to know the truth. Winning an argument with you is not may goal at all. Whether you want to obey Jn. 3:14 or not is your business and between God and you. My duty is to point out what is truth. Response: I will never say listen to what I say or Kochappi or anybody else says. But if we say something as the mouthpiece of God, we all have to listen to it. Because, just like the prophets at all times, we are just sending out friendly reminders when anybody violates God's commandments. Recently the Syro-Malabar hierarchy has not been what they preach much more frequently than the laity. So when they send out these friendly reminders, they have a credibility problem. That is where people like me and Dr. Kochappi step in. Not because we are perfect, but at least we try our best to practice what we preach. But all must understand that as somebody reminded correctly about what Francis Assisi did, when the Churchy hierarchy leaves a huge vacuum because of their lack of credibility, somebody has to step in. That is all what people like me and Dr. Kochappi are doing. When we say 2+2 is 4 and when the Church hierarchy says 2+2 is 5, I think everyone should listen to us. Truth does not depend on who says it. It depends on who accurately quotes the Word of God. It does not make absolutely any difference whether Dr. Kochappi says 2+2 is 4 or Bishop Alencherry says 2+2 is 4. But recently, people like Bishop Alenchery have been saying 2+2 is 5. And that is why we have to correct them by saying 2+2 is not 5 but 2+2 is 4. This is exactly what we have been saying about the Crucifix which is based on the Word of God and about the Mar Thoma Cross which is nothing but an idol because it Powathil-made and therefore it is like somebody saying 2+2 is 5. We cannot stand idle on the sidelines without saying anything in response just because Dr. Kochappi and I do not have a Bishop's hat or a staff that is curved and has the image of the idolatrous 'Mar Thoma Cross' carved into it.

OR (2) BY WHOM JESUS WANTED TO BE LIFTED ON THE CRUCIFIX, AS MOSES LIFTED UP THE SERPENT IN DESERT???? TOM VARKEY, PLEASE INFORM THE ABOVE ANSWERS WE WANT TO STUDY.

i've got only one question. are u people mad or what? i'm not a chicago person. just a humble christian living in kerala. just happened to see your blog. you people are making such a hype and hoopla surrounding "claver kurish". i can understand your point, but how come you can claim that only this "claver" is the source of all problems in our community? ain't it better if we concentrate on all the spiritual aspects of faith, rather than concentrating on how physical symbols of faith should be? would you think jesus christ would care if one of the symbols used in his church looks like "claver"? i don't know the answer for any of the above questions, but how can you be so concentrated on such physical aspects of faith? if this goes on, then even if SMC fixes this prob, you'll be finding something wrong with something else the very next day. Maybe, we should strive to become better christians and better human beings first. Once we are all perfect in ourselves, we can move on and fight against things like, say, "claver kurish"
