It is said the Holy Catholic Church is universal. Indeed it is universal in that it never caves in to pressure or criticism. Not from its members. Not from civil authorities. There is always something righteous about every illegitimate stand the church takes.
In this light it is highly improbable the clamor for the removal of our vicar will have any bearing on the authorities. On the contrary it might result in the opposite. The vicar may be here to stay for the foreseeable future. In that respect the Voice might have done him a great favor.
Not that his prolonged stay here is that altogether unwelcome. Indeed we would like to see him eating some of the bitter fruits of his labor. We would like to see him fry in the bitter fire of fury of the people. Letting him get away so soon is being too kind to him.
The bishop, together with his vicar and his collaborators have screwed this community good. As arrogance would have it, they are unwilling to admit any responsibility for their disastrous endeavor. And woe to him that dares to question their folly.
After the cathedral building fiasco, the propaganda machine of the authorities is working overtime. There is no scarcity of visiting priests and other assorted coolies who endlessly sing the praises of the new cathedral. But the people of this parish know better. They know they did not get what they bargained for. Just about every Sunday they search frantically for a parking space. Many unlucky ones end up getting parking citations. The real unfortunate ones get their cars towed. It seems the people of this parish have become the cash cow of the Village of Hellwood, a source of revenue for the cash strapped village. We can't blame them. After all with all our expensive cars and SUV's we are the "slum dog millionaires" of slummy Bellwood.
The members of this parish are disappointed. Their money has been squandered irresponsibly. Admittedly they are in poorer and worse shape now with the new cathedral than before.
Needless to say the authorities are in Fools' Paradise!
