What could he be referring to when he said, "do this in memory of me"?
In the old days there used to be a sacrifical lamb. Those who assembled to pray and participate in the sacrifice completed their participation by eating the sacrificial meal.
In the last supper Jesus used bread and wine. He said he is the sacrificial lamb, and his life will be given in place of a lamb. His desciples ate the bread and completed the symbolic sacrifice. When we do that in his memory, we should be thinking of the real sacrifice that took place shortly after the last supper of Jesus. That is what He wants us to do in his memory - remember him, and he sacrificing himself for us.
So, now, where should the crucifix be placed, since it reminds us of the sacrifice he made for us?

Thanks for the link. But on that cross Did you see the Persian writings of 3rd-6th century around it? It is not written in any of the old Indian languages. So it is not Indian and it doesnot belong to St.Thomas who lived centuries before..This also means all those lotus and all Indian connections cooked up with Persian cross are WRONG. Many people are cooking up non-existing Indian meanings to it. Won’t you agree ?.
Link also show a “cross with peacock” . That is created 1000s of years later by an Indian carpenter or mason. Hindus use peacock with Murugan...
Anyway Mr. Thomas Mathew, if you are eager to show all those different crosses , Why is it that you can’t consider the crucifix preached by all the disciples (1 Corinthians 1:23), saints, doctors, pops, bishops etc.?
Did you know that if this cross is from Edesa centuries later, it has ‘nothing unique’ about St.Thomas. Because many other disciples and their followers also lived and taught in Edesa, not just St.Thomas. Even if you throw out the names like Haddai and Mariam who lived couple of centuries after St.Thomas, they are followers of all other disciples too ,not just St.Thomas.
If you are only hi-lighting a heritage of 3rd-6th century and later Persia, you are in effect ignoring St.Thomas' arrival in India, which is unforgivable…. . Christian Historians, logic and tradition teaches that St.Thomas’ is the one who gave baptism to our ancestors in India and not the Persians. We agree we had Persian connection just like we had Roman and Israeli connection. But you are in effect diluting St.Thomas connection.
Perhaps this cross is Manikkayan, perhaps it has great meanings and indeed venrable. But even bishops agree that it is not the one brought by St.Thomas, the apostle.
Whatever the case may be, if you believe that Jesus is God, you can never “replace” crucifix with a questionable cross.
Or assume that crucifix of universal church and apostles are wrong and that ‘this’ cross of Persia alone is correct.
Syriac church and Universal church were both built by all disciples. But the authority is through the pope and St.Peter’s key. We are pretty sure that even St.Thomas would support one church and one shepherd under the pope and hate this tendency of separatism and tendancy of bypassing the syromalabar arch-bishop.
If you are particular about Eastern Church culture and identity, that is not to be shown by removing the crucifix or believing that universal church is wrong.
But brother, show your great eastern identity by spreading more of church in India and outside.
But instead we see the main goal of propagandists seems to be only the brutal enforcement of ‘cheela’ even at the cost of division.

Our Bishops (Sheperds)main aim is to unite the faithfuls (sheeps) with love. I agree Biship is the head of our family and we all are members of the family. I am also a member of the family from the very begining of this church and I shared a large amount of money and my name is hanging in a leaf in our family tree in our cathedral which I am proud of. I have every right to have my previlage from my father(Bishop) freely being his son. Bishop Angadiyath is a very nice person and spiritually so. I personally respect him. But officially I disagree with him. Because he installed ring curtain and a big mar thoma cross in the alter as his own forgetting a large number of faithfuls including me did not see this in their life time. If you remember there was nothing like this in our old church (now parish hall).When Bishop Angadyath installed these problem started. More over, our Cathedral alter is beautiful but it looks ugly with ring curtain. Even if he was planing to have curtain in the alter it should have been designed that way. You say that you can go to any latin church where I can find what I need. Dear brother, If we all think like this how Chicago Diocease would exist. Lot of people leaving our religion and joining Jevoha Witness, Pethcost and so on because of these kind of fighting. Remember, if there is no believers, no priests, no Bishops and religious leaders. That is why number other relegions are increasing. Jesus Christ never want loose a single sheep according the Bible.

The open confessions of a former priest about his priest-sainthood life has become a heated topic for discussion in the Syro Malabar church.
The autobiography of K P Shibu, who worked in the Vincentian Congregation for the last 24 years, has triggered a row.
Shibu left the church last March after working for 13 years as a priest student and 11 years as priest.
Now Fr. Varghese is going to talk about the pressure he is getting from the Syro Malabar Chicago Kaduppan and gang.
He is trapped either way, he will be kicked out by Syro-kadauppan, thoma, saju, reji and sunny gang if he don't listen to them or will be forced out if he does anything against the majority of Coppell parish wishes.

Dear Thomas Mathew, if you want to read the history of Manichean cross you may not get the real history dated back from 2008. You have to search in internet Manichaeism and the real history will come in all encyclopedias. None of the saints in Syro-malabar held this Claver Cross and Marthoma was also never seen in any of his picture with Claver Cross. And it is agreed by real scholars of the church that there is no true records to prove this Cross is from Marthoma. And there is strong evidence that this cross was not from St.Thomas. It was learnt that some bishops from syro-malabar church has secret agenda to teach this idea for sometime and make it a history, if you believe it or not. If you wish to venerate Claver Cross it’s up to you, but please do not try to change the history. God Bless you.
I strongly believe that another Francis Assisi has to be born to save our Syro-malabar Church. I have served my Parrish almost 10 years spiritually, financially, with my knowledge and efficiency being a Catechism Teacher, Extraordinary Ministry member, Jesus Youth Animator, Youvadeepti Animator, Prayer Group Leader, Attended special Bible classes of Fr. Mathew Vellanickal the top Bible scholar in Asia and of Syro-malabar Church. However, I do not understand why the church is so adamant to venerate this Manichean Cross, when we have a Sacred Cross through which Jesus has fulfilled our Salvation.Just think my brothers in Jesus Christ.
Saji Achan's exit was the maximum allowance we had granted to you bishop and kaduppan.
You mistakenly thought that is the end of it.
Remember,that was the beginning.We will go from thereYou should never give more money to priest than listed by the diocese.Don't give to priests,give to church and charity organaizations.

He wrote in the heading ‘Mar Thoma Sliba, an apt name ‘ ‘ why do I choose the name’MTS?MTS is a syriac name(Term) commonly accepted and used by most of the MTN.(Mar thoma Nasaranees) - അതായതു ഈ കുരിശിനു മാമോദിസ നല്കി മാര്‍ത്തോമ സ്ലീബ ആക്കിയത് ഈ പുസ്തകത്തോടെ ആണ്.

Also he did not write a single sentance about the discovery of this cross by portgheese from Mylapore as claimed . എന്നാല്‍ ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ (1989) സെക്കന്റ്‌ എഡിഷന്‍ ഈ കുരിശിന്റെ photo സഹിതം അതിപുരാതന്‍ കാലം മുതല്‍ പ്രചാരത്തിലിരുന്ന മാര്‍ത്തോമ സ്ലീവയുടെ രൂപം എന്നെഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
1991 -മൂന്നാം പതിപ്പ് ഈ കുരിശിനെ നസ്രാണി പൈതൃകത്തിന്റെ തനിമയാര്‍ന്ന ചിഹ്നം എന്ന നിലയില്‍ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത് ചരിത്രത്തെ വളച്ചൊടിച്ചു നടത്തിയ ഒരു ഗൂടാലോച്ചനയുടെ ഭാഗം ആണോ അതോ കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പള്ളി മെത്രാനായിരുന്ന
ബഹു .POWATHIL നെ പ്രീതി നേടുവാനയിരുന്നോ എന്നുള്ളത് ചിന്തനിയം.
Also worth mention is the fact that other books explaining the history of Asian Christianity does not give any mention to this cross as Marthoma Cross.Dr. N.A.Thomas , in his book ASIAN MARTHOMA SABAKAL(1982) give the description as ‘Pallavi Cross”. Dr.A.M, Mundadan in his book “.History of Christianilty in India”(1984) also does not name this cross as Marthoma Sliba. Even Fr.Plazid Podipara mentioned this cross as Persian Cross only.

Bishop Angadiyathu or other Bishops to explain how a cross made in AD 500-600, with foreign language inscriptions became the symbol of Kerala Catholics whose history start from St.Thomas in AD 52?
