We are taking quite a beating for our last post which seemingly supports Fr. Kattackal's stand. Many of our Orange County readers, as you can see, are upset with us.
Let us clarify: our true stand is what we stated in our earlier editorial, namely, Fr. Kattackal should abdicate gracefully. He should retire, or should find another venue for his evangelical missions.
The last post, let us make it clear to our readers, was made in jest. We apologize if it gave the wrong impressions to some of our readers.
Having said this, we are not unhappy to see the bishop in a very uncomfortable situation. We have had many dealings with the bishop on a variety of issues, including the Marthoma Cross issue. Needless to say he was unmoving and obstinate like a rock. So we are happy to see him getting a little of his own medicine. We like to see the bishop squirm. Only on this matter we cheer Fr. Kattackal.
The sad truth is our diocese has no clear cut procedures in place about how to handle retiring priests. More often than not, the priests serve at the pleasure of the bishop and his curia flunkies. Not many members of our diocese know that Chicago Syro Malabar diocese does not have any priest of its own. All the priests serving the parishes are guest-priests borrowed from other dioceses and religious orders. They serve at the whim of the bishop. This we believe, is to keep these priests subservient to the diocesan authorities. Differing with diocesan authorities can be fatal to any priest's future, as Fr. Saji of Coppell sadly found out. The truth is, the bishop is using this absolute power over the future of all priests serving under him, to black mail them into enforcing his particular agenda, which is Mar Thoma Cross and Altar Viri.
No bishop in modern times has squandered so much goodwill of the faithful, as Bishop Angadiath. He is inept and inefficient. He is a regionalist and partisan. He is weak and manipulatable. With his shortcomings' he has caused irreparable division and fanned regional tension in our community.
He has to go. So should Fr. Kattackal. This is our opinion.

Thanks for explaining your stand. We believe that it was a mistake from the part of the bishop to let Fr. Kattackal stay at one place for almost 10 years. For now,bishop is the decision maker for the diocese. So, for the sake of the faithful Fr. Kattackal should "obey" the bishop. The faithful is caught in the middle of an eccentric priest and inefficient bishop. The parish community want Kattackal to go "obeying" the bishop.

All the problems in Syro Malabar Catholic churches today are created and because of one arrogant leader; that is Mr. Powethil and he can be compared to Hitler himself.
He wants to control everything within Syro Malabar Rite itself.
He is like a quotation gang leader who terrorizes all other bishops and priests to force his agendas through the Synod.
All other bishops and priests have to stand up against this arrogant brutal Hitler like bishop Powethil and bring back our Syro Malabar rite into the real Catholic faith values, where we have only Crucifix in the altar and have all the sacraments in a timely fashion in person’s life span.
To the Bishops Synod,
All other bishops and priests have to stand up and fight for the crucifix in all churches. The SMC-USA bishop might have already taken with him many of his agenda keepers for the Synod. If that is correct then it is very unfortunate for the church.
The whole USA and world around Syro Malabar Catholics and Indian Christians knew about the nasty situation of the Chicago diocese. Please do not bring divisions and confusion to the faithful in faith matters. We need the Crucifix back and also we do not want the VEIL any more.

1. CRUEL. Retirng a preist who is 80 years old and providng retirement home at bishop's house is not a cruel action.
2. Built the Church - Fr. Kattackal should be thankful to Orange county community and Bishop Gregory Karattemprel.
Orange county community was able to raise $12500 for a retreat back in 1992 and able to shape our faith life since then. Orange county community formed a legal lay men organization to work with Appostolic Visitor karattemeprel, Palai Bishop and Orange county Latin Bishop Tod Brown to facilitate Fr. Kattackal's appoint ment in year 2000. Kattackal only took benefit out of it.
3. Kattackal is a Pearl or stone ?. In my opinion, he is a shame to priesthood and disgrace to all Indians.
He is living on food stamp. Not every one can do that like a beggar on the street. Actually the shame goes on you and me.
There is a saying that if you steal, do not steal until dawn.
There was another comment, that peson said, he would not call kattacakl father. He called him sir.
Another person said, stop using bible worses kattackal. What a disgrace and double doctorate? Some cases Universites take thier doctorate back. People have resicnd thier doctorate back to universities also. That;s for normal people.
