Syro Malabar Synod: Claiming to be Wise, Will they Become Fools?

Anonymous By Tom Varkey, Parishioner of St. Alphonsa Church, Coppell, TX, USA

In 1 Kings Chapter 18 of the Bible, we see how the Israelites were vacillating between Jehovah, the true God and Baal, the false God. For fear of the people majority of whom were worshiping Baal, the Israelites hesitated to follow Jehovah completely and wholeheartedly. So in 1 Kings 18:21 Elijah asked his fellow Israelites: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” Exactly this state of indecisiveness is plaguing today’s Syro Malabar Church. Even though more than 90% of the Syro Malabar Catholics want the crucifix, which is a God-given gift to humanity as the symbol of man’s redemption and meant to serve as an instrument of his salvation, they are afraid to stand up against a handful of influential bishops in the Syro Malabar Church who have dominated and terrorized the whole Syro Malabar Church. They have allowed these Mar Thoma Cross terrorists to roam freely and replace the sacred Crucifix with their idolatrous cross, desecrating the places of our worship converting them into havens for Baal, the false god!

In 2001 when Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil visited Dallas, this humble parishioner invited him for a meeting in which about 15 of the supporters of the Crucifix participated. We asked him to intercede on behalf of the parishioners of the Syro Malabar Church in Garland, TX to have the Crucifix installed in the church sanctuary. Being fearful of incurring the rancor of the newly elected Bishop Angadiath and his ill-advisers, Cardinal Vithayithil caved in to their pressure. He washed his hands saying that Chicago Diocese is outside his jurisdiction. Like Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, we have a lot of spiritual wimps today within the ranks of the Malabar Church who are afraid to assert their authority for fear of losing their popularity among the Mar Thoma Cross addicts. Instead of acting with boldness assertiveness, they shy away from their responsibility. The power vacuum created by the inaction of these wimpy leaders is being exploited by the enemies of the Crucifix like Bishop Powathil and others to advance Satan’s agenda by promoting his Satanic idol, the Mar Thoma Cross.

A similar thing happened at the Synod meeting last time when it met. Instead of standing up for the Crucifix which alone is Biblically-based and therefore truth-based, the leaders who were charged with the responsibility of decision-making simply stepped out of the way. Leaders like Cardinal Vithayathil mistakenly thought that making compromises on truth by not standing up for Jesus Christ and his Crucifix was a virtue. They forgot that there is no substitute for standing up for the truth like Elijah stood up for the living God even when he was far outnumbered by the 900 Baal prophets. The result was that at the end of the Synod meeting, the Bishops jointly issued a communiqué which stated that the Crucifix and the Mar Thoma Cross are both equally worthy of veneration in our churches. This is equivalent to saying that there is no difference between Baal, the false God and Jehovah, the true God. They forgot the fact that Elijah disproved this outrageous myth by killing all the prophets of Baal all by himself proving that no idol can be a match for the power of the Living God and his truth!

It is high time that the Church of Jesus Christ today woke up to the truth of what is going on in the Syro Malabar Church as millions of misguided believers led astray by their misguided leadership are perishing for all eternity. We are seeing the actual fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy about the blind leading the blind. Satan has hurled our moral compass that is supposed to give us spiritual direction based on the Word of God into the bottom of the Arabian Sea or the Atlantic Ocean in the case of those of us who live in America. As a result, we are groping in darkness going from bad to worse in our spiritual life as more and more churches find the Mar Thoma Cross at the center of their worship.

In Rom. 1:22 we read: “Claiming to be wise, they became fools” referring to mankind’s idol worship when they exchanged the glory of the living God for the image of reptiles and birds and other animals as we read in Rom. 1:23. We are seeing more and more of this kind of desecration of our places of worship with the images of birds and reptiles and other animals. If you don’t believe me, just look at the pastoral hat (called a mitre) worn by His Excellency Bishop Angadiath and the other Syro Malabar Bishops. For example, the miter of Mar Angadiath has the picture of two peacocks on the front!

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, once idolatry sets in, there is no limit as to how far it will take us because Satan is in control of idol worshipers. Don’t be surprised if in the coming days and years, if we see more and more animals displayed on priestly vestments like the peacocks, cows, buffalos … what not! Our misguided church leaders who go after the Mar Thoma Cross have suddenly realized that these pictures are more ‘cute’ than the Crucifix and have started introducing them one by one into our places of worship. One of these days, they will think of a ploy to even link these animals with St. Thomas and argue that they found something in the tomb of St. Thomas that had the picture of a peacock, etc. … you know where I am going with this! Welcome to IDOL WORSHIP IN FULL BLOOM!! No wonder Paul said in Rom. 1:22: “Claiming to be wise they became fools.”

At this juncture, the burning question being asked is: Is the Syro Malabar Synod scheduled to meet this month in Kerala going to stand up for the real cross of Jesus Christ or will they once again follow the path of idolatry as the previous Synod did by endorsing the MarThoma Cross Idol as a viable alternative for the Crucifix giving it the same importance as the Crucifix?

Another question is: Will Fr. Jojy in the Garland Church in Dallas, TX stubbornly insist on holding to the Mar Thoma Cross Idol even though it is so wrong based on the Word of God? If he does, then those who hang on his coat tails are going to learn the hard way the lesson which all supporters of the Mar Thoma Cross should have learned by now: that Baal can never prevail over Jehovah, the living God. It can never prevail also over the Crucifix which springs up from the depths of a sinful world as its Savior hangs on it giving life to its inhabitants! What springs up from a lotus can never be a match for the Crucifix even by a long shot because it is an idol. What springs up from a lotus has a name, and its name is Goddess Saraswati and like its counterpart -- the Mar Thoma Cross, it has no power for anything because it is merely a pigment of man’s imagination. May God bless you all in your continued fight for the Crucifix.

Whatever damage done to the Syro Malabar church by Bishop Angadiath with his circus team is enough and more. We are really fed up with you wolfs.

Be straight forward, and tell Fr.Joji to not play with our religious freedom and against the Catholicism. We do not want your Claver Cross and Viri anymore. If he wants to do whatever bishops wants, let him do it in his own house. Here on America the people are the church and let the Bishop and Fr.Joji lead the faithful as good in compliance with the path of Christ and keeping the core catholic fundamentals as the core virtues.

If they are real St.Thomas Catholics (Syro Malabar Catholics) they need to proclaim the glory of God which deeper rooted and bind to Biblical teaching. The Syro Malabar Catholic Church’s greatest Enemy comes from within the church itself in the form fraudulent SMC-Chicago Bishop and his crooked and money hungry priests.

We do not allow the Fr. Joji to put Claver cross and Viri in the Dallas church. Please voice your cancers to the upcoming Syro Malabar Synod and launch a verbal complaints by calling Kakkanad during this week. Let our voice be heard and resonance in the Synod.

Please encourage the faithful from across America to call Kakkanad and launch a verbal complaint against SMC-Chicago Administration. Every call counts. We will win this race, because Jesus Chirst is our good shepherded to guard against us from wolfs attack.

Synod bishops are not the fools. But people like you who are exactly ignorant of the basis of church theology are becoming fools, by your baseless comments...
Crucifix is the symbol of our Christ's holy sacrifice. But the basis of our faith is not his sacrifice but his resurrection. If the Jesus has not resurrected, there could have been no Church..
The best symbol for the resurrected Jesus is the Cross without the body of Jesus. It should be well decorated to reflect our confidence and faith in our resurrection too..
By this, its clear that our St Thomas Cross is the best suited for our alter..

If resurrection is the most important basis of church, then why put a cross on the altar? Instead of cross, you should put an empty tomb or an empty casket in the altar.

Did your CCD teachers tell you that Jesus rose from cross or from tomb? May be you went to claver CCD school instead of catholic CCD school!!!

Little knowledge about the bible and the church teachings is more dangerous.

The Syros Malabar Bishops from Kerala are more spiritually educated with great mission and vision than the Chicago-SMC Bishop Angadiath and his biased opportunist priests. The Bishop synod is never going side with protectionism any more. If they do so, then there will be tremendous exodus of Syro Malabar Catholics to other denominations. Then the so-called the Syro Malabar church in USA will be isolated as a non-denomination church and not be a part with Catholicism.

The Mar Thoma cross is the rebirth of the Nestorian cross, as soon as it enter into Chicago Cathedral Altar then the golden time of the Bishop Angadiath has gone to its grave. The Nestorian cross is pagan and Satanic, it rooted out faith from Middle East, Iraq, Iran, and Tibet etc.

Let us pray for Bishop Angadiath for his return to the true catholic faith so that he can see clearly and shepherd as in faith based teachings.

Syro Malabar Synod: Spectacular Show by American Syro Malabar Catholics at St. Thomas Mount
By Tom Varkey, Organizer and Parishioner of St. Alphonsa Catholic Church, Coppell, TX, USA

In connection with the on-going Syro Malabar Synod at St. Thomas Mount at Kakkanad, Kochi, the American Syro Malabar Catholics under the leadership of Tom Varkey, President of Jesus Army Ministries, Inc. an evangelistic and non-Profit Corporation operating from Dallas, Texas put up a spectacular and impressive protest rally at Kakkanad at the entrance of the Syro Malabar Curia.

The objective of the protest meeting was to highlight and convey to the Syro Malabar Archiepiscopy hierarchy located at St. Thomas Mount the feelings of the Syro Malabar Catholics in the U.S. who have been denied the right to place the Crucifix in their churches in the U.S. The protest meeting followed the press conference held at the Press Club of Ernakulam on the previous day during which Biju Thomas and Tom Varkey spoke. They answered many questions from the press about the pathetic condition of the U.S. Syro Malabar Church in the U.S. in the face of the denial of even the basic rights which were granted under the 1998 Syro Malabar Synod Meeting.

During the protest meeting, all the participants in unison with the organizers once again reiterated their position that any future attempt on the part of anyone including the Syro Malabar leadership in Chicago to install the Manikayan Cross otherwise known as the Mar Thoma Cross will not be tolerated at any of the Syro Malabar churches in the U.S. including Chicago and Garland, TX. They unequivocally vowed that only the traditionally venerated Crucifix will be permitted to be placed in the sanctuary in all the Syro Malabar churches in the U.S.

Hundreds of believers displaying various placards and banners participated in the protest. They protested the current situation in the U.S. whereby the Mar Thoma Cross is being ramped down the throats of unwilling Syro Malabar Catholics living in the U.S. against their will and in direct violation of the Synod decisions taken by the 1998 Synod. They vowed to fight the Caldeanization tactics of the Chicago Syro Malabar leadership at all costs fighting it tooth and nail including consideration of going to the U.S. court. The meeting unanimously asserted that they have every legal rights to go to the court if pushed far enough as it is illegal to discriminate them by denying the rights currently enjoyed by the Synod Hierarchical leadership centered at Kakkanad and Ernakulam where ONLY the Crucifix is placed with NO MAR THOMA CROSS placed anywhere in their churches or chapels.

The protest meeting was called a Grand Success by everyone by all definitions and by all standards. At this juncture, we have no words to express the priceless assistance and moral support provided by a number of priests in Kerala including Rev. Fr. Edassery who was in the U.S. for more than 15 years, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thaliyan and Rev. Fr. Joseph Vylikodath. Thanks to everyone including those individuals who gave us such strong support in the U.S. May God bless you all.

Syro Malabar Synod: Claiming to Know God,They Deny Him by Their Actions
By Tom Varkey, Parishioner of St. Alphonsa Church, Coppell, TX, USA

Story is being told of a Caldayan Bishop who was asked by the Pope to recite the parable of the Good Samaritan during an interview for being promoted to the position of an Archbishop. The Pope asked, “Your Excellency, Bishop Jacob, will you recite the parable of the Good Samaritan?” Yes, your Holiness, I will be glad to recite it for you, Sir.” Then he went on as follows:
Once there was this man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho and he fell among the thorns. And the thorns sprang up and choked him. And as he went, he didn’t have any money and so he met the queen of Sheba. And she gave him a 1,000 talents of gold and a 1,000 coins of silver. And he got into his chariot and drove furiously. And when he was driving under a big juniper tree, his hair got caught up on the limb of that tree and he hung there for many days and the ravens brought him food to eat and water to drink. And he ate 5,000 loaves of bread and 2 fishes. One night when he was hanging there asleep, his wife Delilah came along and cut off his hair. And he dropped and fell on stony ground. But he got up and went on and it began to rain. It rained 40 days and 40 nights. And he hid himself in a cave and he lived on locusts and wild honey. Then he went on to meet a servant who said to him: “Come and take supper at my house.” And he made excuse and said: “No, I won’t because I married a wife and I can’t go.” And the servant went to the highways and byways and compelled him to come in. After supper he went on and came down to Jericho. When he got there, he looked up and saw that old Queen Jezebel sitting way up high in a window. And she laughed at him and he said: “Throw her down, down up from there.” And they threw her down. And he said, “Throw her down again.” And they threw her down seventy times seven. And all the fragments that remained they picked up 12 basketfuls besides women and children. And they said: “Blessed are the piece-makers -- p-i-e-c-e.” And now whose wife you think she will be on that judgment day?”
Absolutely brilliant story – fantastic memory -- but the wrong story. Although this story is a fictitious one, it describes what has happened to the Caldayan bishops who attended the recent Synod in Kerala. Since they have replaced the true Cross of Jesus Christ with the Mar Thoma Cross, they are absolutely confused and their minds are in total disarray. Just as the parable above has nothing to do with the parable that Jesus told, the cross they have embraced has nothing to do with Jesus. Their homilies make no sense nor do their actions. No matter what the readings are, always their message for the parishioners is that they should obey their bishops. They forget the fact that when they abandoned the Cross of Jesus Christ, God abandoned them also.
Just as Samson did not know that the Lord had left him due to his immoral living (Judg. 16:20), these bishops do not realize that God has left them also because they have stubbornly refused to accept the Crucifix. They have forgotten what God says in Gen. 6:3: “My Spirit will not contend with man forever …” In conclusion, “They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him” (Tit. 1:16). Their story is the story of the blind man leading the blind! Glory be to Jesus Christ and His blessed Cross in which we pride ourselves (Gal. 6:14).
