അക്കാലത്ത് പവ്വം എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ബാല്‍ എന്ന പിശാചിന്റെ ഒരു അവതാരമുണ്ടായിരുന്നൂ. . അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ വിശ്വസ്തനായ സേവകന്‍ ചന്ത എന്നര്‍ഥം വരുന്ന അങ്ങാടിയത്ത് എന്നൊരു പുരോഹിതനായിരുന്നു അമേരിക്ക ദേശത്തെ പ്രവാസികളുടെ മഹാ പുരോഹിതന്‍ .
ആ ദേശത്തില്‍ പെട്ട കോപ്പെല്‍ എന്ന കൊച്ചു നഗരത്തിലെ കുഞ്ഞാടുകള്‍ മഹാ പുരോഹിതന്റെ വാക്കുകള്‍ അനുസരിക്കാന്‍ തയ്യാറായില്ല. അതില്‍ കുപിതനായ അദ്ദേഹം തന്‍റെ വിശ്വസ്തനായ പ്രോക്ക്യുരേട്ടര്‍, കോമാളി, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ സരസന്‍ , എന്നര്‍ത്ഥം വരുന്ന വിനോദ് എന്ന് പേരുള്ള പുരോഹിതനോട് അങ്ങോട്ട്‌ പോകുവാന്‍ ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു. കൊപ്പേല്‍ ദേശത്തിലെ പ്രവാസികളുടെ പൊതുയോഗത്തിന് കൃത്യം ഏഴു ദിവസം മുമ്പ് ആയിരുന്നൂ ഇത്.
കോപ്പെലിലെ ഇടയുന്ന മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ വരി ഉടച്ചു വശത്താക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു മഹായിടയന്റെ നിര്‍ദ്ദേശം. എന്നാല്‍ കോപ്പെലിലെ മുട്ടാടുകളുമായി പലപ്പോഴും നേരിട്ട് മുട്ടിയിട്ടുള്ള പ്രോക്ക്യുരേട്ടര്‍ അല്പ്പമൊന്നമാന്തിച്ചു.
"നിനവേക്ക് പോകാന്‍ മടിച്ച യോനായെ തിമിംഗലം വിഴുങ്ങി അവിടെ കൊണ്ടെത്തിച്ചില്ലേ? ഞാന്‍ ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചത് നീ ചെയ്യും," യജമാനനായ അങ്ങാടി പറഞ്ഞു.
"അതിന് കോപ്പെലില്‍ ഉള്ളത് തിമിങ്കലങ്ങലല്ലല്ലോ പിതാവേ , മനുഷ്യരെ കടിച്ചു ചീന്തുന്ന മുതലകളല്ലേ," പ്രോക്ക്യുരേട്ടര്‍ യജമാനനോട് പറഞ്ഞു.
അപ്പോള്‍ മഹാ പുരോഹിതന്‍ തന്‍റെ പ്രോക്ക്യുരേട്ടരോട് ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: " ഇന്നുവരെ നീ തവളയെ പിടിക്കുന്നവനായിരുന്നു. ഇന്നുതുടങ്ങി നിന്നെ ഞാന്‍ മുതലയെ പിടിക്കുന്നവനാക്കും."
ഇത് കേട്ടെ പ്രോക്ക്യുരേട്ടര്‍ യജമാനന്‍ ആഞ്ഞാപിച്ചത് പോലെ കൊപ്പെലിലേക്ക് പോയി. കര്‍ത്താവിനു ബലിയര്‍പ്പിക്കുന്ന സമയം അവിടുത്തെ വൃദ്ധനായ പുരോഹിതനെ ആരും ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യരുതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം സമൂഹത്തോട് ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു. ആ സമയം കൊരട്ടിക്കാരന്‍ പത്രോസ് എന്ന പീറ്റര്‍ പ്രോക്ക്യു രേട്ടരോട് ഒരു ചോദ്യം ചോദക്കാന്‍ വായ്‌ തുറന്നു. അതിന് മുമ്പ് തന്നെ പ്രോക്ക്യു രേട്ടര്‍ പതോസിനോട് ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു " പത്രോസേ, നീ അടങ്ങൂ. നിന്നെപ്പറ്റിയും കൂടിയാണ് പത്രോസേ ഞാനിത് പറഞ്ഞത്. " ഇത് കേട്ടു ക്ഷുഭിതനായി നിന്നെ പിന്നെ കണ്ടോളാം എന്ന് പത്രോസ് മനസ്സില്‍ പറഞ്ഞു ശപിച്ചു.
ഇതെല്ലാം സംഭവിച്ച സാബത്ത് ദിവസത്തിന്റെ തലേ നാള്‍ തോമാ വീര്യമേറിയ വീഞ്ഞടിച്ചു പൂക്കുറ്റിയായിരുന്നു. അതിന് ശിക്ഷയായി കര്‍ത്താവ് നല്‍കിയ തലവേദന കണക്കാക്കാതെ സൂര്യോദയ സമയം തോമ അയല്‍ ദേശമായ ഗാര്‍ലാണ്ടിലേക്ക് പോയി. അവിടുത്തെ യുവ പുരോഹിതനെ തല തിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു തോമാക്ക് അങ്ങാടി കൊടുത്ത നിര്‍ദ്ദേശം. തോമായുടെ വാക്കുകള്‍ കേട്ട യുവ പുരോഹിതന്‍ ബലിയര്‍പ്പണ സമയം വിശ്വാസികളോട് ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: "സത്യ കുരിശ് വലത്തും, കള്ള ക്കുരിശു ഇടത്തും ഞാന്‍ തൂക്കും. ന്യായാധിപനായ യേശു നടുക്ക് ഇരിക്കും. ഞാന്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നത് എന്താണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് തന്നെ അറിഞ്ഞു കൂടാ."
ഇത് കേട്ട വിശ്വാസികള്‍ ഇടിവെട്ട് കൊണ്ട പോലെ സ്ഥപ്തരായി ഇരുന്നു പോയി....
