The Battle of the Little Big Coppell

The bishop cannot win overtly in Coppell. So he is fighting there covertly. As part of this tactic, his cronies duped Coppell police to come to the venue of their General Body meeting with the intention of throwing the meeting into disarray and intimidating their opponents.

This leaves no doubt about the bishop's intentions. The autocratic bishop is hell-bent on crushing the opposition. And he is willing to use any means to achieve it.

The bishop's underlings have, thus far, been an utter failure in advancing his agenda. If anything, their crude tactics have only helped the opposition.

The bishop utterly fails to understand the reforms he is trying to advance in the US Syro-Malabar church, are not warmly embraced by a great majority of the faithful. Even the clergy, they privately admit, is coerced and black mailed into supporting his agenda. It has been almost 10 years since the Chicago Syro-Malabar Diocese was established. Still the truth is, there is not even one single priest who truly belongs to this diocese. All the pastors serve at the whim of the bishop. This is the means by which the bishop keeps his priests subservient to him. He wields absolute power.

We are inclined to think the bishop is willing and ready to fight it out in Koppell. He knows very well that as goes Coppell, so goes Garland and as goes Garland so goes the whole US. Coppell is bishop Angadiyath's Little Big Horn, and figuratively speaking, his fate ain't much better than Gen. Custer's.

Angaadi listen buddy

Church belongs to the people who paid for it.

You may think it is yours, but correctly it is us the faithful that owns the church, without us no church and no you amen

You are just like the old man fool who thought all his kid's earnings belonged to the old fool father.

This church is because of our hard earned money, so don't try to take credit of it ok.

Only thing you do is fly all over US to install thaamara cross in first class flight, use this first class air fare to feed some hungry or homeless or less fortunate people.

We are Proud of You, Fr. Varghese for your Courage
By Tom Varkey, Parishioner of St. Alphonsa Church, Coppell, TX
The parishioners of St. Alphonsa Church were really impressed that Fr. Varghese admitted his mistake in failing to step up to his plate on Sept. 19, 2010 during the General Body Meeting. His failure to act gave way to those with vested interests in taking over the meeting to achieve their goals – at least they thought they could even though their attempts ended in total failure. I am sure that from now on the relationship between Fr. Varghese and the parishioners should go much more smoothly if only he continues to handle his responsibilities as the vicar without showing partiality and without siding with those who think they can get away with murder. The next question one has to ask is: When will our beloved bishop have a change of heart and realize that his stubborn position with regard to the Mar Thoma Cross will only make things worse with each passing day?
Yesterday I was watching a report on CNN about how all these years -- for the past 25 years or so the Pope was hiding his head in the sand not willing to take any action against Fr. Murphy, a Catholic priest running an Institute for the Mute in Wisconsin and abusing the students attending the institute. He had molested 200 or so young men attending this institute. Pope Benedict XVI who was Cardinal Ratzinger at the time the issue was referred to him did not act on the issue. The result was that the predator priest, Fr. Murphy went to his grave with a lot of wounded hearts and broken lives to say the least.
I was wondering to myself how long will it be before His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath admit his mistake and step up to his plate to do the right thing when it comes to carrying out what the past two Synod Meetings have instructed him to do? The sooner he does it, the less wounded hearts he will leave behind and less the damage done to his flock. He is almost reaching a point of no return where the damage he has caused by his intransient position on the Mar Thoma Cross has broken so many families and divided numerous communities throughout America. In the case of Pope Benedict XVI even though it was after 25 years, he DID finally admit his mistake. But in the case of our Bishop, we are still waiting. We hope he will not choose to imitate Cardinal Ratzinger, but he will follow the heroic example of Fr. Varghese. May God bless you to act courageously in your remaining days also as long as you remain the pastor of St. Alphonsa Church at Coppell.
