This is a convincing, real and live comment about the Syro Malabar Chicago diocese. Our church authorities are the number one cheaters and they are really criminals. They cheated the poor parishioners and the Global Catholic Church. I do not know how they could offer mass sincerely during Sundays and how they could face the parishioners sincerely. A bunch of Syro Malabar’s priestly crooks along with their Bishop boss are really spoiling our community. They are draining us financially and spiritually. Are they serving for the Syro Malabar faithful? Why Bishop needs $250 from everybody. This community was very peaceful before these entire crooks.

Instead of going back to 5th century traditions, the Bishop can go further to 550 BC. If the bishop is so nice and clever then he need to convert back to his Hinduism.
We need to bring this to the notice of the Dupage and Cook county Attorney general offices and to all US INS offices in India. The Bishop violated our religious rights and it is against US law and international religious practice; Give to Ceaser what is Ceaser's and to God what is God's.

The curtain and the claver cross are the proof of spiritual drain of the Bishop Angadiath and his priests. They need to pay huge price for these atrocities.
Our so-called Bishop is behind his already decayed pagan theology. If we support his theology fully then we are really going away from the true gospel and it is not good for our future generations. I saw him last week in a local Malayalam paper, presenting a plaque to the Chief Justice of India. Our Bishop cheated his own sheeps and our bishop he already violated the fundamental human right and fundamental law of this country. The Bishop has already lost his credibility as a spiritual head of our community.

I have seen disoriented liturgy in the new cathedral from the beginning. Our Chicago Bellwood church liturgy and Sunday mass is really a circus. Please tell me what we accomplished after the new cathedral. We have had a very good setup from the beginning. The church cheated all faithful and our church authorities divided the community.

The person who tore the sheela has not been accused of any criminal action by church or govt. authorities. He is a private citizen. We are not going to accuse a private citizen, or parishioner just because some of you feel so. We do not want to be legally in hot water by messing with him.

First of all let me admit I am a member of the Pastoral Council. We had an emergency meeting of the pastoral council the day after the curtain incident, Sunday,to discuss the issue of the curtain. Some members were blowing a lot of hot air about taking criminal action against the perpetrator. But at the end, Mr. Siby Alumparampil came out with a courageous statement and we all agreed, that the course of action should not be legal. It was left up to the bishop and the parish priest. So Fr Antony was appointed by the bishop and Fr George Madathiparampil to settle this matter amicably. And our understanding is Fr Antony accomplished this in a peaceful manner. He officially apologized to the bishop, the vicar and the syro-malabar community for his actions, and as our spiritual father, the vicar, accepted. This is my understanding. And I believe this chapter should be closed.
But I am very much ashamed some members of our church is still fighting and squabbling about this matter. We are all members of the same family, this parish. Despite what I believe was his erratic and immature action, his whole family is a benefactor of our parish. They have contributed greatly, both financially and otherwise, to our church. His brother, Paulson, donated thousands of dollars worth of LCD TV's to our church. I know this for a fact. His wife Jessy has contributed greatly to the music ministry with her talent. We also know and it was discussed in the council, they, the choir raised a substantial amount of money for our new Cathedral. I do not know how much. We just cannot deny these factors. If we count all the shortcomings and sins of every member of our church, there will be nobody left in the church.
So what I am saying is our church and our community is all-inclusive. We have to have Christian charity in our hearts. Let us move forward. Let us have the spirit of forgiveness in our heart. That is what Jesus is all about. I am not preaching, but what good is it, if we do not have mercy in our heart? What is the meaning of being a Christian. I do not know if you are going to publish this comment or not. But I had to clear my conscience. And please, use your writing talent for the benefit of our church and community. Please stop hurting the church and the bishop. You are not doing any benefit to society or the church with your poisonous pen.
The person who ragged the sheela has done the right thing. It supposed to be torn and carried out this action in advance by one of our priests itself. But we do not have any priest from a good traditional catholic background in Chicago with guts (ijjeth).
The real criminals are the one who imposed that dirty sheela in the church and their supporters and the bishop is responsible for his down play.

If the church might have gone for legal action against the sheela tone, then there will be at least three types of masses will be forced legally through the Bishop in the Bellwood church. There is no doubt about that.
If a parishioner files a legal complaint today, then church will force to abide with his demand. The bitter part is that the lawyers squeeze the juice out of the church for compensation. There is no cannon law which is above the law of the land and the us-priests-sex abuse case proved it through its 2 Billion US$ compensation.
In the Syro Malabar Cathedral, the church violated the fundamental religious right of a citizen. I hope our church authorities will eventually realize the seriousness of the issue and remove the sheela from the church. First reverse the bishop’s chair, why he needs to face the faithful.
The sheel and the whole setup of the new cathedral are very unholy for a church setup.

Let me ask you something. when the curtain incident happened, was it the responsibility of the parish vicar to brief the community about the incident thereby stopping the rumours spreading. The church was constructed using the money of the community and the members have every right to know when a damage occurs and i believe that the parish council has also a responsiblity to make sure the community is well informed.
The parish council needs to do a postmortem and investigation about the curtain and claver cross origination and its induction to the new cathedral church first.
The Syro Malabar Catholic community was not even aware about the new curtain in the new cathedral church until July 2008, never even there has been any kind of discussion about the curtain in the new cathedral. The Bishop and the priests have been hiding the facts. This was one of the hidden agenda of some foolish Bishops and their cheese makers. The church cheated the faithful. The following gospel passage is very well applicable to Bishop Angadiath.
Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. (Mathew 18:6)

It seems to me that you have some personal grudge. There are much more important things authorities have not explained to the people. They have not even opened the account books for the public. They hung the sheela and claver cross, which was not in the original plan. Have you ever asked the authorities why there are only 200 parking spaces for a church that has almost 1000 families and had a budget of almost 10 million dollars? You are a courageous man. You should be questioning the authorities about these serious matters. The torn sheela is a silly matter now. But any legal or public action will make it international news, and is very bad for the church and our bishop. I am living in Des PLaines, and I am living in this country with my family consisting of my: 15 year old son and his younger brother who is 13. Since my kids were 5 years old, I sent them both to malaylalam class. Since the new church was built, they changed the all the schedules. Now, I stopped my kids' malayalam class. Also my dream is to have my kids learn malayalam. Also I did a big mistake.I payed 1 lum sum of money to church. Everytime I see the curtain in our church,I get angry that my money was used for something that is not in our Syro Malabar culture. So after great thought and discussions with others, I have decided not to pay the church for yearly contributions. Also I'm 43 years old and have never seen any churches with these decorations. God said " blessed are the poor in spirit for they shall be humbled."
If we spend our hard eaarned money for decorations that we odn't need, other churches will think we are greedy and use our money for
"rubbish." Thank you for all the people that support my reasons.

The "Thirasheela" is not a public property; it should not in the altar of the new cathedral in the first place. Whoever chooses that sheela and put that dirty unholy cloth into the church done a sacrilege to the church. The church is not a private property of some narrow minded bishop and his priests. The church represents the body of Christ and we will not allow dirty things inside the church.
I 100% agree with the person who answered the "youngster". "Thirasheela" is not a public property. It is a personal property of the bishop. He hung it in a public place, that is all. So he is the one who did anything illegal. We the parishioners did not approve for such a sheela to be hung in there. So any parishioner who contributed towards the church has every right to try to remove it by any means. So the person who tried to rip the sheela did the right thing.
Now I am personally waiting for the church construction account to come out. I want to see if any public fund has been used to hang this ridiculous sheela. If so, it is a mis-appropriation of public funds. The sheela and the ring were not in the original, committee approved plan. So if public fund has been misused it is sufficient ground for legal action against the bishop.

I take time to read this site not for fun but to correct myself as a priest.I have to tell you that i understand your issues and problems. One request , i dont know, named chancellor,the way he writes is abominable.Dont think all the priests are daft and dumb.When you get a couple of dollers in your hands you feel that you know everything.But i have spend 19 years in giving myself to God and to the people of God.If you pay me the minimun wages of this country whre you and me live i will be the richest man.Because am on call always 365 days in twelve months and 30 days and 24 hours.But not for money its just because of love and love alone. STRONG AND BITTER WORDS INDICATE A WEAK CAUSE
EVOLUTION OF ST. THOMAS SYRO-MALABAR MISSION OF TORNTO - PAGE 1
Let me give you some insight into the Toronto Catholics. In Toronto we started celebrating Holly Mass occasionally in the early 80s. The purpose was not only to worship but also for socializing and get to know the community. I considered it as a very good intention. It was a celebration in many ways. Toronto Catholics was a union of Malankara, Latin, Kanaya and the Syro-Malabar. Remember all of these Rites originated due to the difference in opinion of our Leaders for self interest and leadership. Our religious leaders and political leaders are not different in nature. One commonality is that they never tell you the truth.
As the community grew, the Arch Diocese of Toronto allowed us to share one of their own church and we celebrated Mass there every week free of charge. In fact, Sunday was a special day for all.The Arch Diocese did not impose any rules on the community other than the ones insisted by the Priest in charge. The new borns were baptized, the dead were buried, marriages were blessed, houses were blessed etc. In fact everything went so smoothly, in peace and in harmony.
Syro Malabar Leadership in Kerala was watching eagerly, the growth of Malayalee Catholics in North America like an eagle to spread their influence in North America. They felt it is a green pasture for them. Do not forget that Syro Malabar had appointed CMI Bishops in some poor Mission centers in North India where they had no interest due to the lack of luxury.
As a first step they sent a one man delegation (a CMI Bishop) to North America to study the reaction of Kerala Catholics. The CMI Bishop was welcomed by the North American CMI priests with the hope that they will one day get a CMI Bishop. North American Catholics rejected the idea of a Diocese and a Bishop. For a while there was no talk about the Bishop and the Diocese, but the worship and social activities continued and every body lived in harmony and friendship.
Contrary to the expectation of the CMI community, Angadiath was appointed as the first Bishop. It was one of the nastiest tricky game Syro Malabar played sending a CMI Bishop to North America first and appointing a Diocean priest as Bishop. Do not forget CMI was the front runners in North America and they deserved to be treated better. In fact, the Dioceans are reaping the reward of the hard work of the CMI.
As time went by, Malankara split away due to the self interest and narrow mindedness, stimulated by the Kerala Leadership. The church continued under the direction of the Toronto Arch Diocese absolutely without problems. Every body enjoyed the church and the community.
Since 2005, there was an influx of people arrived from Guelph and other part of the world who were deprived off their religious rights where they lived. They arrived with young children and when they found out the religious freedom we are enjoying they became so excited and some of them even became born again. I did not see much co-operation from them other than their self interest of teaching catechism to their children. Some of them were there only for leadership. When they lost their chance for the leadership they turned against the CMI priest who was in charge of the church at the time.

Some bad elements, self interested, greedy of leadership formed an organization called SMCC (Syro-Malabar Catholics of Canada), started their own agenda of harassing the Toronto Arch Bishop, with the blessing of the Chicago Mission. Finally Toronto Arch Diocese transferred the Apostolic right to Chicago. From now on Chicago will look after our spiritual needs and recommend a priest for the parish; Toronto Arch diocese will issue the appointment order.
Couple months ago one CMI priest took charge as the new Parish Priest, but he was ousted by Chicago and replaced with Chicago’s own. A Toronto millionaire has offered a 6 acres of land to build a new church, sounds like a good gesture, not sure what the motives are.
Every year, we have set aside a day for Ecumenism. It is the joke of the century. It is a movement promoting unity among Christian churches or denominations through greater cooperation and improved understanding.
If CMI and the Dioceans can not get along, never mind, the 18 or so Bishops of Syro-Malabar are not united, how on the earth they can unify the other groups. They are not preaching from their heart. Their preaching is nothing more than a political speech. I had respect for them when I kept a distance. As I got more and more close to them I lost the respect.
Few years ago a dioscean priest visited Toronto and did the Homily. His homily was not about the Bible reading. He used the opportunity to critize the Latin rights in a big way. I still remember his words “there is a big difference between Latin and Syro Malabar”.
What a shame, these are the leaders who preaches about Ecumenism. I can only sympathize with their attitude. Did the priest come here to unite us or divide us? Chicago represent Catholics from all over Kerala, how on the earth they can impose one Bishop’s interest on rest of the community by putting veil at the Altar and changing the cross to Mar Thoma cross. For the leaders it is business as usual, for us is hope for salvation.
Conclusion
Toronto Catholic community was a harmonized society, not sure what the future is.
For this division Fr. Madathiparambil and Bishop Angadiath are totally responsible.
Rules and regulations will be imposed on us against our will, but on our expense.
SMCC (radical group) will regret for their action when they face the reality.
Chicago dumped SMCC after they got what they wanted (real nature, they don’t need you any more)
Chicago’s attitude will be “do’nt tell us what to do, do what we ask you to do”.
We will be better off without them; there will be peace and harmony.
Join the main stream church if you can, but Chicago may not give you that choice.
Chicago does not want one big church; they want several small churches so that they can have another Bishop for Canada to harass us.
CMI is better of the two evils .
I wish they left us alone. We don’t need them to pray to God. They are not for our well being, they are there to harass us.
The issues have only started not ended. Wait and see.

Toronto St Thomas Mission Catholic Church is taken over by Syro Malabar of Chicago. Prior to the takeover, there used to be minimum one, if requested two Annual general Body meetings and one election for church council every year. The newly appointed, Chicago's own favourite priest cancelled the Anuual general Body meeting and also the Election to the dismay of SMCC, the rivals to CMI. I can only sympathises with SMCC and warn that there is more to come.
To the disgrased SMCC, I want to ask this. "are you not disappointed. Chicago does not need you any more. You worshipped the devil not the Lord and you desrve it. You have been fooled and you will be fools for the rest of your life. Now carry the cross for ever.

Brendan Smyth later moved to other dioceses and countries, where he continued to abuse children for another 20 years.

Smyth died in prison in 1998, but not before an extradition controversy related to his case led to the collapse of the Irish Republic's Labour/Fianna Fail coalition government.

We need to realize why we are into all this. While we have some excellent churches all around US and not enough people to attend, Syro Malabar is buying buildings and accumulating wealth. The priests are making more money than the parishioners with additional jobs and dividing the community in the process ruling the faithful!!!! They are so insecure and any time a number of people join together and and speak up, they are targets of character assassination and attacks. This will only work for some time in community like the US. All those who wasted their time on this now has the duty to clean up the mess that is created. Priests who are dying to come to US should go elsewhere and be true missionaries. There are many places around the world where they can be excellent missionaries of Jesus.
What all the so called “adults” (I emphasize the quotation marks around adults) who have posted on this site is that the purpose of a church is to provide the community with a facility to pray in. When has the church become a place fro politics to occur? When has the church become a place for anger? What is the purpose of having this cultural rite, if the cultural influences only cause more conflict? The so called “adults” that are responsible for running the churches affiliated with the Syro Malabar church behave as if they are small children. There is a saying that world politics is like a kindergarten class. It seems as if Syro Malabar politics is like a kindergarten class. Through the efforts of several “adults”, many children have been discouraged from attending the church created to maintain our Indian traditions in this new nation. Why would they desire to attend a church in which conflict is anticipated? When conflict in a church becomes a norm, change is not suggested but mandatory. Change alone will bring an end to the problems in the Syro Malabar church.

Nobody is holding a god damn gun to your head. If you hate the rite so much just leave and go to some other church. We go to church to attend mass... not to enter in politics. why do our syro malabar churches carry the most drama queens? I think it is very wrong for a group of people to criticize our bishop and priests. In the Bible it even says that if u criticize a faith leader u may as well just cut your toungue off because it is better to enter the kingdom of heaven without a toungue than go suffer in hell with a toungue. i see many people criticizing our bishop and i think that is very wrong.

As a close friend of Kunjumon and Susan, I am humbly requesting you to please get your facts straight before you speak. The money that the singers get from private functions (if they even get any) go straight back to the church, every last penny. And as a matter of fact, some private functions don’t even give the singers any money. Most of them never get any personal money for singing at private functions. Also, if you have an issue with the singers, why don’t you get your sorry ass up there and sing yourself. Obviously you know nothing about the choir and what goes on within it. You’re just saying what you know and it is not even the truth. If you truly have a problem with the people singing up there, then go up to them personally and speak your mind. In addition, I am 100% sure there is no need of a degree to sing in the Syro Malabar choir. That is not part of the description. I hope you know that the choir members are supposed to mimic angels singing to God and I’m pretty sure God doesn’t cares if you have a stupid degree or not. Talking bad about people behind your computer is probably the most coward thing you can do. In conclusion, next time one of you has something to say about the choir or anyone dedicating their time to serving the church, think wisely before you judge/comment because God will show you the consequences. Just wait and see.

To all who are involved in the pointless battle that is taking place right now between team crucifix and team thamara: Yes, I do know that that sounded really silly. But it is appropriate because that's just how all you grown ass men are acting. For goodness sake, stop the madness. Both sides are at fault here. Nobody's innocent! So quit believing that you are only doing the right thing because you are more than likely not. Get rid of your ego and pride, come to a compromise and please discontinue the absurdity because quite frankly, things have really gotten out of control.

This is in respose to Mr Mathew Thomas's blog. Mr. Mathew, Jesus never said anything would happen to the tongue that criticizes the clergy. May be one of the apostles did say that. Jesus on the other hand criticized the high priests and the scribes for their hypocrisy. But you should remember that the Bible was re-written may times in the past, especilly during the time of emporer Constantine. The Syro Malbar hierarchy, in my openion, is not pious any more.
