May we suggest another solution your excellency? "Just get the hell out of our lives. Take your diocese and your priests and plant them elsewhere like another planet. Leave us alone. Nobody dead, buddy. We are thinking hard. What shall we do with our bishop? How long can we support these useless people? What benefit do we get for supporting his lavish life style? Please think about these before you give a penny to these people.
What's wrong in 'Edaya leganam'??
Diocese need money, as it has no other sources for income. It's our(if you believe in catholic church) duty to support the diocese. We should support the Bishop and the diocese. Syro malabar voice should be gentle and nice especially when you are addressing a Bishop or Priest.
First of all though you are saying the fact, standard of language is not appropriate. I understand your frustraton, but please keep up your past excellent communication skills on this subjects too.
Every organizations are auditing and controlling their expences now. I am wondering when the bishop is going to review the salaries and expences of the priests.
I understand their salary is about $3000/ month plus car allowance etc. This is a tax free money.
When a malayalee priest makes $3000, all the Amarican pasters are getting in the rage of $1000 - $1500 per month. I hope some authorities will review this matter too. If the priests are in the money makeing business then its a racket and its a planned game. On the other hand, they care about the church and people, they should be reasonaable too.
Think, what is the use of supporting the lavish life style of bishop and priest? We have no use and we have no duty to support their lavish life style. They are making idiots out of us.
We have to support the church and diocese. That does not mean we have to finance all their stupid follies. Look at the useless building at 5544 st charles road. Plus authorities have no accountability.
They asking money. They have to provide accounting of it about who is using it up and how much. What other real estate purchases they made? Why they buying these useless properties? I have a business and I can't make some mortgage payments. I work there very hard but still not enough income from it. Bishop won't help me to make my payments. Then why should I help him?
I hear the property at 5544 st charles is unusable. without the building the land is not worth more than $30,000. And how much people paid for it? Over $600,000 I hear. Whose money is it? The public's. But who cares.
What did the bishop mean when he says in his letter he neads money for "infra-structure"? Hey, I really need money for my family's infrastructue too. I am praying to God, like the bishop always asks us to do. Why can't he do the same and pray to God for help too? It will be easier than harassing the faithful like this.
Agree with the Comment that the language used is too harsh when complaining about Bishop and Priests. Yes the hierarchy needs to finance the obligations of diocese and it fine to secure financial support from the faithful, but should not make the folly of purchasing buildings just because it is a bargain or some sort of that...

It is interesting to note that the faithful is notified only after the "buildings" are purchased and pleads sent for support.
How much did the "Sheela" cost which is "claimed" to be an after thought?.

Its second great depression and all the charity organizations have fallen behind in meeting their budget goals. They did not forget the recession aspect when they request the public for financial support. Looks like our diocese plead writer forgot to mention this.
What are we doing to help the recession affected folks in our community, rather than creating all sorts of organizations in the name of Church and trying to claim name and fame, fulfilling their inner insecurity ! .

Also, Bishop and chruch should post all thier income and expences (itemized line by line) in a webpage. So the public can evaluate whether the expences are reasonable.
Hope they will realize this is not a federal budget. They can't just keep taxing. Learn to live with in the means.. thats what all members do.
syromalabar priests or authorities never ever show no KANAKKU to nobody. you might be in a dream land. remember how they conducted the church inaguration function?they spit on everybodys face, who honestly helped to construct that church. A bunch of a..hole leaders appeared all of a sudden. shameless leaders. I dont even know how they even took that responsibilities. What a thankless group of priests these are. They are definitely responsible for all thes unpleasant and thankless happenings. Look at culturel acadamy. Lot of engineers, docters, dui, politians became artistically good all of a sudden. THESE ARE ALL CHANGES, ACCORDING TO OUR OLD BISHOP. THEN LET ME ASK SOMETHING , WHAT IS HE WAITING FOR. I don't like to comment about Bishop or church becaue I am too scared. And the reason of the scare is my faith. And I ask all apologies with all my heart prior writing this. And the following is no way offending the church or authorities and I did not mean to do it also.
The following points are with a Honest Heart and with a bold mentality. However, I am not bold enough to say the below things in public because I am a well known peronality at Syro Malabar :)
There are some reasonable aspects to be discussed
1. The church is already built. There is nothing can be done on that. Started with 4.5 Million and it ended with 10+ Million.
VOICE - No Need of Voice on this anymore I guess...
Yes nobody did anything wrong with the money. But there were several mistakes with the same "Mallu attitude". We make outside pretty and inside nothing.
Fact, we have a 16K Sqft building and obviously it's beaitiful. But the Point is it would have been beautiful if the money spent was 5Million. Now when we say it's beautiful, we are overkilling it.
-- There is no stain glasses
-- Outside - Without a 3D study, the people thought it will be like Kerala Style. But it costed a lot of money since it was custom "Kudams' and it did not come out well the way everybody expected.
2. Now spending another 1 Million on Parking on the "Hellwood" may not be the right idea. Rather build another community in Northwest or Desp Plaines area within 1-2 Million. We are growing and this way, we will grow more.
I meantioned "Hellwood" because I felt that way. The original idea from the church was, the Bellwood church will be a place for the youth to "Hang out". I do not think I will let my kid to hang out in the "Dark" area. And I feel that the place is scary for girls to hang out because I see many "Black Cats" walking in our church surroundings.
3. Church need to have a set of 5 people who are smart in business, who can make sharp financial decisions. The decisions need to be authorised by church members' pole via a trusted church web site (This can be easily done and this will avoid all damn confusions. )
4. People like us should not inturupt in Sheela matters. Leave that to Sabha. Because it's relegious matter. But in-turn financial matters, domestic decisions, parking resolutions etc need to be handled by general public.
5. There has to be a high level commiitee to over see the bullettins, Kachara committee etc. More thoughts are needed towards this.
6. The autorities house, offices - Somebody could have done an excellent job and save may be 80% of the cost. Spending 2.3 Million for a house with any housing market was a "Dumb Idea". You could get a 7 Bedroom house anywhere in the suburb less than 800K.
7. Finally, whoever the architect did a brilliant work on the Men's Bathroom - NEED to be fixed. You could easily peep thru the door and see who is inside and who is doing what. It's a SHAME.
Authority PLEASE do something about it atleast. COVER the damn door splitted area with somestuff. If authorities can't, there is another better idea. Have a trustee stand there always :)
Sorry to write this much. And God FORGIVE me for writing all this. I did not want to but .. these are true facts. And if Authorities feel these are correct, it's time to accept things and start doing things corectly. Catholic Church is built and grew with faith and forgiveness. And as Catholics, we should be willing to forgive too.

For the st.charles rd property they made us to pay 890,000. Now the building is useless. It needs to be demolished or rennovate at a cost of 200,000. Pay additional 200,000 to do what with that building? Better to demolish the building atleat can avoid some prop tax. But the land alone worth less than 30,000.
We lost a million dollar in this one transaction. What other transactions like this they did? How many more they planing to do? We want to know. They can't do whatever they want with our money. It is free money for them. But its our hard earned money. Need more money? just tell us that they are gods and we must obey them and pay them our money. They are not gods. They should be held accountable.
As a long time member and supporter, I am kindly asking the people to suspend their financial contributions until there is transparent acoounta blity from the part of the authorities.
