പൌരസ്ത്യ സുറിയാനി വീക്ഷണത്തില്‍ ഇശോയുടെ മരണം കഴിഞ്ഞുപോയ സംഭവമാണ് .അത് അവിടുത്തെ മഹത്വപൂര്‍ന്നമായ ഉത്ഥാനത്തിലെക്കുള്ള കവാടമായിരുന്നു .അവിടുന്നു ഇന്ന് ഉത്ഥിതനും മഹാത്വീകൃതനും ആകയാല്‍ അവിടുത്തെ സ്ലീവ ഇപ്പോള്‍ അവിടുത്തെ മരണത്തിന്റെയും ഉത്ഥാനത്തിന്റെയും അടയാളമാണ് .അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് 'കുരിശിന്റെ സന്ദേശം' ജീവിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് ശക്തിയായിരിക്കുന്നത് ..ആദ്യ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിലെ കുരിശിനോടുള്ള ഭക്തിയെപ്പറ്റി പ്രസിദ്ധ ആരാധനാക്ട്രമ പണ്ഡിതനായ യുങമേന്‍ പറയുന്നത് ഇതാണ് : "There are no representations of the crucifixtion in the ancient churches. The cross - Yes, but in a stylized form as the cross of glory , as tropaion,as a victory sign created after the victory . But when later they began to represent the crucified christ himself they did so in roman art. The cross is the kings throne; insted of the throns there is a kingly crown upon his head; the linen cloth has become a regal robe; at his feet the church looks up. full of trust while the synagogue turns away in shame"

ഉത്ഥാനം ചെയ്തവനും ലോകത്തില്‍ പ്രതാപത്തോടെ വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന്വനുമായ മിശിഹായെ സ്ലീവ പ്രതിനിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു .ക്രൂശിതരൂപം യേശുവിന്റെ മരണം വരെ മാത്രം അനുസ്മരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അവിടുത്തെ രൂപമില്ലാത്ത കുരിശ് അവിടുത്തെ മരണം മുതല്‍ പുനരാഗമനം വരെയുള്ള രക്ഷകര രഹസ്യങ്ങള്‍ അര്‍ത്ഥമാക്കുന്നു .

About the Latin Churches... We are the merciless people in the world if we start forgetting things.
Remember - Syro Malabar Chicago Cathedral Church and it's 5 Acerage lot was originally given to us for a SINGLE DOLLAR by the Latin Diocese around 30 years back. And the 5 acrerage was the very single reason we spent 10Million on the hellwood location because according to Fr Antony Thundathil, buying such kind of a location would have costed another few millions. And we ended up spending extra millions in the "Very Disturbed" area. And now we have four horns and more teeths to protest and talk against Latin Churches. Shame on us.
Great article indeed.Congrts for bringing up.any reforms in the Liturgy with out having heard the voice of the people, it would be disastorous. It would be like Chicago Cathedral "sheela" being put up with fist challenging the Parishoners of so called faithful of the church. The "Sheela' echoes nasty face of the authorities, with out listening to the voice of the people. It is a shame for Major Archbishop. The same thing will not happen with bigger community at large. His agendas for the imposition of liturguical dictatorship will not blossom as he wants. The power and glory of Major Archbishop is not for a dirty political mileage that he wants to make through imposing the so called powathil cross and liturgy.

Even Latin rite has allowed different liturgical variations based on place and culture. No one has worked for unifying their liturgy with a fist hand. Still their liturgy is unified, while also permitting liturgical forms of a small minority to co-exist within the mainstream Latin church.

ആദൃം പളളികളില്‍ നിന്ന് പൊറത്താക്കേണ്ടത്ത് ഈ തരത്തിലുളള ചെകുത്താനേ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന വൈദികരെയാണ്. ആലംചേരിയേയും അങ്ങടിയത്തിനേയും പൌവത്തിനേയും പളളികളില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കിയാലെ കത്തോലിക്ക സഭ വളരുകയൊളളു. ഈ വ൪ഗ്ഗം ഉളളയിടത്തോളം കാലം കത്തോലിക്ക സഭ നശിക്കുകയൊളളു.
ജിംനാസ്റ്റ് അറിയുന്നവന്‍ എങ്ങനെ വീണാലും തലേം കുത്തി വീഴും എന്ന് കണ്ടു പിടിച്ച ശശ്ശെരിഅച്ഛാ എന്തിനാണ് പള്ളികളില്‍ ഇത്ര മാത്രം താമര കുരിസ്സുകള്‍ വക്കുന്നത്. ഈ താമര കുരിസ്സുകളില്‍ തന്നെ വ്യത്യാസം സോഭാവം ഉള്ള കുരിസ്സുകള്‍ ഉണ്ടോ?

Some most eminent Catholic historians compiled the Catholic Encyclopedia of 1910. This encyclopedia describes Mar Thoma cross :
To prevent the spreading of such reports it may be useful to state here of these crosses one is in the Church of Mount St. Thomas, Mylapur, discovered in 1547 after the arrival of the Portuguese in India; other is in the church of Kottayam, Malabar. Both are of Nestorian origin, are engraved as a bas-relief on the flat stone with ornamental decorations around the cross, and bear an inscription. The inscription has been variously read. Dr. Burnell, an Indian antiquary, says that both crosses bear the same inscription, and offer the following reading: "In punishment by the cross was the suffering of this one, Who is the true Christ, God above and Guide ever pure." These crosses bear some resemblance to the Syro-Chinese Nestorian monument discovered in 1625 at Singan-fu, an ancient capital of China but erected in 781 and commemorating the arrival in China of Chaldean Nestorian missionaries in 636.

Bishop Alenchery’s Gimmicks Won’t Fix the SMC; Only Treating the Cause of Its Decay Will – Tom Varkey The Syro-Malabar Church is facing immense challenges today to say the least. Surprisingly the solution is a very simple one. What is needed is a two-pronged plan. To explain this two-pronged plan, I have to tell you a story that supposedly took place in a convent in Kerala. It involves the convent’s Mother Superior’s plan for making sure that her subordinate nuns received absolution from their sins after they got back from their summer vacation. Following this method that she herself improvised, Mother Angela (not her real name) once did a very spectacular thing which raised quite a few eyebrows to say the least because of something that she specifically did. As she does every year, this time also the day after her subordinate nuns got back from their summer vacation, she placed a large plastic tank in the center of the main room of her convent. She filled the tank about a foot high with holy water. Then she gave instructions to the other nuns. She asked them to dip in the holy water whatever part of the body they used to sin while they were on vacation. After giving them this instruction, she quietly sat in the tank with her behind touching the bottom of the tank as the other nuns one by one immersed their hand, feet, eyes, and so on in the holy water. Even though it may have been a little unclear as to what kind of sins the other nuns committed, in the case of Mother Angela, it was quite clear what kind of sin she committed and which part of her body she used. In my analysis based on the Word of God, the cause of all the problems in the SMC is the lack of holiness in our Church. In Josh. 7:13 God asked Joshua to sanctify the people. He did this by stoning to death Achan and his family. In Josh. 7:26 we read: “Then the LORD turned from his fierce anger” and from that point on, the Israelites came out victorious from every battle they fought under Joshua. This is what I also have to say to the SMC as a solution to fix today’s problems in the Syro-Malabar Church. We must sanctify our SMC Community by doing two things. First we MUST reinstate the Crucifix and use it as a means to obtain forgiveness of our sins by using it just as Moses used the bronze serpent. This is the command from Jesus that we must obey. As long as we do not do this and keep on replacing it with ‘Mar Thoma Crosses of all sizes, we will make the LORD more and more angry and we ourselves will become more and more unholy. To get out of this trap, we need to hold on to what can make us holy by obtaining forgiveness of our sins and removing from our places of worship what makes us more and more holy. Holding to what makes us holy by obtaining forgiveness of our sins is where the example of Sister Angela comes in. Even though I do not agree with her method nor do I recommend it, her idea of pursuing forgiveness of the sins of her fellow nuns is central to sanctifying the SMC. For this, we must hold on to the Crucifix and remove the Mar Thoma Cross which destroys our holiness. By holding on to the Mar Thoma Cross, we become unholy just as Achan desecrated the entire Israeli nation by keeping for himself some things devoted for destruction. The method I am suggesting consists of reinstating the Crucifix in all our places of worship and removing all forms of the ‘Mar Thoma Cross’. This is the first thing that needs to happen.

In an effort to get a deeper understanding about what I am trying to say here, let us compare what Sister Angela in our story did to what Bishop Powathil and Angadiath are doing in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church today by imposing the Mar Thoma Cross on their innocent congregations. Stubbornly and systematically they have rejected the means for us to get absolution for our sins which Christ has given to us through Jn. 3:14. Here Jesus said: “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man also must be lifted up.” For us to lift up the Son of Man in the same way as Moses did is to first find out how Moses did it. We see the answer to this question in Num. 21:8-9 where God gave instructions to Moses by saying: “ ‘Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.’ So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.” Thus according to Jesus, the Crucifix is to be used by us to restore our spiritual life when we become spiritually dead through our sins. This is the purpose of the Crucifix according to Jesus and this is what He meant when He asked us to lift Him up as Moses lifted up the bronze serpent. Instead of using this Jesus-given method for obtaining forgiveness of our sins, our Syro-Malabar hierarchy including Bishop Angadiath, Bishop Powathil and His Beatitude George Alenchery are all focused on getting rid of the Crucifix which is so very wrong. What they are asking us to do is like telling a diabetic patient to eat 10 pounds of sugar a day to cure his diabetes. This must be stopped immediately if we want to sanctify our SMC. The secondd step is to decrease sin in our midst. This is where the Holy Eucharist comes in. In 1 Sam. 15:22 we read that ‘obedience is better than sacrifice.’ Whenever we receive communion pledging our allegiance to the idolatrous ‘Mar Thoma Crosses’, we “are receiving Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner due to our disobedience and we will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord (1 Cor. 11:27).” By removing the Crucifix from our altars and churches and replacing them with the ‘Mar Thoma Cross’, our bishops and priests are not only removing the instrument by which we are to get remission from our sins but are also making us commit a very serious sin by forcing us to receive Holy Eucharist “in an unworthy manner.” This too must stop if we want to sanctify our SMC. In Jn. 13:27 we read about what happened to Judas when he received the Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner. There we read: “As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.” Whenever we receive the Holy Eucharist after collaborating with those who install the idolatrous ‘Mar Thoma Cross’ in our churches, we have reason to believe that Satan is entering into our hearts just as it once entered Judas. This is also true in the case of all the priests who promote the Mar Thoma Cross and place it in their churches against the command of Jesus in Jn. 3:14 and against the directives of the Synod. This is the root cause of all the maladies within our Syro-Malabar Church today. In Mt. 12:33 Jesus said: “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.” The ‘Syro-Malabar Church tree’ is being made worse and worse for the two reasons I stated above: 1) Its only source for getting remission for its sins namely the Crucifix is being taken away in increasing numbers; and 2) the Syro-Malabar hierarchy and the congregation are becoming worse and worse every day by receiving the Holy Eucharist “in an unworthy manner” by receiving it in disobedience to Jesus Christ after violating His command in Jn. 3:14.

I am pretty sure that Mar Alencherry never said he would fix everything. In fact, he is a very humble man. Furthermore, he was known as a wonderful pastor in the mission diocese of Thuckalay where he visited the homes of the faithful daily. Our Holy Mother witnesses the cross. Nobody can serve two masters at the same times. Therefore Mar-Alencherry need to accept, preach and profess about Jesus cross first.
Mar Alencherry is very knowledgeable shepherd. If Mar Alencherry publically accepts the authenticity of the cross of our lord Jesus Christ then only the whole catholic community accepts him. Nobody in this world could deny Jesus’s Cross and nothing on earth or in heavens and beneath the earth can equate or compare with the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore the manmade mar-thoma cross needed to be taken off of the altar first.

About the Latin Churches... We are the merciless people in the world if we start forgetting things.
Remember - Syro Malabar Chicago Cathedral Church and it's 5 Acerage lot was originally given to us for a SINGLE DOLLAR by the Latin Diocese around 30 years back. And the 5 acrerage was the very single reason we spent 10Million on the hellwood location because according to Fr Antony Thundathil, buying such kind of a location would have costed another few millions. And we ended up spending extra millions in the "Very Disturbed" area. And now we have four horns and more teeths to protest and talk against Latin Churches. Shame on us.
Great article indeed.Congrts for bringing up.any reforms in the Liturgy with out having heard the voice of the people, it would be disastorous. It would be like Chicago Cathedral "sheela" being put up with fist challenging the Parishoners of so called faithful of the church. The "Sheela' echoes nasty face of the authorities, with out listening to the voice of the people. It is a shame for Major Archbishop. The same thing will not happen with bigger community at large. His agendas for the imposition of liturguical dictatorship will not blossom as he wants. The power and glory of Major Archbishop is not for a dirty political mileage that he wants to make through imposing the so called powathil cross and liturgy.

Even Latin rite has allowed different liturgical variations based on place and culture. No one has worked for unifying their liturgy with a fist hand. Still their liturgy is unified, while also permitting liturgical forms of a small minority to co-exist within the mainstream Latin church.

Historians recognize Mar Thomma Cross as persian cross and often classified it as Nestorian or Gnostic(Manichean).
Who really likes this claver cross anyway? some cross-breeds or someone who's spouse is from other protestant group who has claver in their church

Some most eminent Catholic historians compiled the Catholic Encyclopedia of 1910. This encyclopedia describes Mar Thoma cross :
To prevent the spreading of such reports it may be useful to state here of these crosses one is in the Church of Mount St. Thomas, Mylapur, discovered in 1547 after the arrival of the Portuguese in India; other is in the church of Kottayam, Malabar. Both are of Nestorian origin, are engraved as a bas-relief on the flat stone with ornamental decorations around the cross, and bear an inscription. The inscription has been variously read. Dr. Burnell, an Indian antiquary, says that both crosses bear the same inscription, and offer the following reading: "In punishment by the cross was the suffering of this one, Who is the true Christ, God above and Guide ever pure." These crosses bear some resemblance to the Syro-Chinese Nestorian monument discovered in 1625 at Singan-fu, an ancient capital of China but erected in 781 and commemorating the arrival in China of Chaldean Nestorian missionaries in 636.

Bishop Alenchery’s Gimmicks Won’t Fix the SMC; Only Treating the Cause of Its Decay Will – Tom Varkey
The Syro-Malabar Church is facing immense challenges today to say the least. Surprisingly the solution is a very simple one. What is needed is a two-pronged plan. To explain this two-pronged plan, I have to tell you a story that supposedly took place in a convent in Kerala. It involves the convent’s Mother Superior’s plan for making sure that her subordinate nuns received absolution from their sins after they got back from their summer vacation. Following this method that she herself improvised, Mother Angela (not her real name) once did a very spectacular thing which raised quite a few eyebrows to say the least because of something that she specifically did.
As she does every year, this time also the day after her subordinate nuns got back from their summer vacation, she placed a large plastic tank in the center of the main room of her convent. She filled the tank about a foot high with holy water. Then she gave instructions to the other nuns. She asked them to dip in the holy water whatever part of the body they used to sin while they were on vacation. After giving them this instruction, she quietly sat in the tank with her behind touching the bottom of the tank as the other nuns one by one immersed their hand, feet, eyes, and so on in the holy water. Even though it may have been a little unclear as to what kind of sins the other nuns committed, in the case of Mother Angela, it was quite clear what kind of sin she committed and which part of her body she used.
In my analysis based on the Word of God, the cause of all the problems in the SMC is the lack of holiness in our Church. In Josh. 7:13 God asked Joshua to sanctify the people. He did this by stoning to death Achan and his family. In Josh. 7:26 we read: “Then the LORD turned from his fierce anger” and from that point on, the Israelites came out victorious from every battle they fought under Joshua. This is what I also have to say to the SMC as a solution to fix today’s problems in the Syro-Malabar Church. We must sanctify our SMC Community by doing two things. First we MUST reinstate the Crucifix and use it as a means to obtain forgiveness of our sins by using it just as Moses used the bronze serpent. This is the command from Jesus that we must obey. As long as we do not do this and keep on replacing it with ‘Mar Thoma Crosses of all sizes, we will make the LORD more and more angry and we ourselves will become more and more unholy. To get out of this trap, we need to hold on to what can make us holy by obtaining forgiveness of our sins and removing from our places of worship what makes us more and more holy.
Holding to what makes us holy by obtaining forgiveness of our sins is where the example of Sister Angela comes in. Even though I do not agree with her method nor do I recommend it, her idea of pursuing forgiveness of the sins of her fellow nuns is central to sanctifying the SMC. For this, we must hold on to the Crucifix and remove the Mar Thoma Cross which destroys our holiness. By holding on to the Mar Thoma Cross, we become unholy just as Achan desecrated the entire Israeli nation by keeping for himself some things devoted for destruction. The method I am suggesting consists of reinstating the Crucifix in all our places of worship and removing all forms of the ‘Mar Thoma Cross’. This is the first thing that needs to happen.

In an effort to get a deeper understanding about what I am trying to say here, let us compare what Sister Angela in our story did to what Bishop Powathil and Angadiath are doing in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church today by imposing the Mar Thoma Cross on their innocent congregations. Stubbornly and systematically they have rejected the means for us to get absolution for our sins which Christ has given to us through Jn. 3:14. Here Jesus said: “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man also must be lifted up.” For us to lift up the Son of Man in the same way as Moses did is to first find out how Moses did it. We see the answer to this question in Num. 21:8-9 where God gave instructions to Moses by saying: “ ‘Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.’ So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.” Thus according to Jesus, the Crucifix is to be used by us to restore our spiritual life when we become spiritually dead through our sins. This is the purpose of the Crucifix according to Jesus and this is what He meant when He asked us to lift Him up as Moses lifted up the bronze serpent. Instead of using this Jesus-given method for obtaining forgiveness of our sins, our Syro-Malabar hierarchy including Bishop Angadiath, Bishop Powathil and His Beatitude George Alenchery are all focused on getting rid of the Crucifix which is so very wrong. What they are asking us to do is like telling a diabetic patient to eat 10 pounds of sugar a day to cure his diabetes. This must be stopped immediately if we want to sanctify our SMC.
The secondd step is to decrease sin in our midst. This is where the Holy Eucharist comes in. In 1 Sam. 15:22 we read that ‘obedience is better than sacrifice.’ Whenever we receive communion pledging our allegiance to the idolatrous ‘Mar Thoma Crosses’, we “are receiving Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner due to our disobedience and we will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord (1 Cor. 11:27).” By removing the Crucifix from our altars and churches and replacing them with the ‘Mar Thoma Cross’, our bishops and priests are not only removing the instrument by which we are to get remission from our sins but are also making us commit a very serious sin by forcing us to receive Holy Eucharist “in an unworthy manner.” This too must stop if we want to sanctify our SMC.
In Jn. 13:27 we read about what happened to Judas when he received the Holy Eucharist in an unworthy manner. There we read: “As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.” Whenever we receive the Holy Eucharist after collaborating with those who install the idolatrous ‘Mar Thoma Cross’ in our churches, we have reason to believe that Satan is entering into our hearts just as it once entered Judas. This is also true in the case of all the priests who promote the Mar Thoma Cross and place it in their churches against the command of Jesus in Jn. 3:14 and against the directives of the Synod. This is the root cause of all the maladies within our Syro-Malabar Church today. In Mt. 12:33 Jesus said: “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.” The ‘Syro-Malabar Church tree’ is being made worse and worse for the two reasons I stated above: 1) Its only source for getting remission for its sins namely the Crucifix is being taken away in increasing numbers; and 2) the Syro-Malabar hierarchy and the congregation are becoming worse and worse every day by receiving the Holy Eucharist “in an unworthy manner” by receiving it in disobedience to Jesus Christ after violating His command in Jn. 3:14.

Their focus in life are material things such as swimming pools, BMW’s, etc. Our problems within SMC will be fixed in a heartbeat if only we completely get rid of the Mar Thoma Cross idol from our churches and reinstate the Crucifix. Then our Syro-Malabar Church will soon be restored spiritually “as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless” (Eph. 6:27) well-deserving of her bridegroom, Jesus Christ. And all the problems in the SMC will soon melt away in front of our very eyes. If His Beatitude George Alenchery thinks he can fix these problems in any other way like Bishop Angadiath and other so-called spiritual pundits in the Syro-Malabar Church have been trying in the past, “claiming to be wise, he too will become a fool” as we read in Rom. 1:22.

I am pretty sure that Mar Alencherry never said he would fix everything. In fact, he is a very humble man. Furthermore, he was known as a wonderful pastor in the mission diocese of Thuckalay where he visited the homes of the faithful daily. Praise God that he has been chosen to lead our church and may our mother Mary defend him from any rumors or attacks. God bless.

This is a faith fight between good and evil.
Our Holy Mother witnesses the cross. Nobody can serve two masters at the same times. Therefore Mar-Alencherry need to accept, preach and profess about Jesus cross first.
Mar Alencherry is very knowledgeable shepherd. If Mar Alencherry publically accepts the authenticity of the cross of our lord Jesus Christ then only the whole catholic community accepts him. Nobody in this world could deny Jesus’s Cross and nothing on earth or in heavens and beneath the earth can equate or compare with the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore the manmade mar-thoma cross needed to be taken off of the altar first.
