An Uneventful Feast

We are over-doing it. I mean we are over-celebrating.
Almost every Sunday we celebrate the feast of a saint or about-to-be saint . Today's was the feast of St. Sebastian. Do not get us wrong. Nothing personal against St. Sebastian or any other saints for that matter. We are all for feasts whatever the excuses.
It is a given whenever there is a feast sure there is going to be the Chenda melam. Same thing today. We noticed one little boy-drummer was playing the drum good, on the right beat. We were impressed. So was Joy Kochuveettil who was playing the cymbals. Overall good job.
Again the cheap color light show. We have to say this again-it cannot get any cheaper than this. Can't the vicar put a stop to this stupid show? It ain't impressing nobody!
Now about the usual sneha virunnu. Now, if you ask us if it was great, we would say it was not bad. If you ask us if it was bad, we would say it wasn't that great!
One little thought: it seems the Pala-Changanacherry people have a monopoly in being presudenthis. It's alright by us. Somebody got to do it. We contribute by participating and partaking of the snehavirunnu.
Last but not least we have to say this. This reporter knows first hand how St Sebastian felt when those arrows pierced him! How excruciatingly painful it was. Especially towards the end of the Mass, during the procession. There was screaming singing by the choir inside the church, and the chendamela outside. It was horrible! Those who were in the church, including this reporter, were subjected to such a torture St Sebastian could smile. One lady singer in the choir was screaming all throughout the mass so loud, she could act in the next "chain saw massacre" movie! She was a screamer alright!

Old-timers used to say: there is a time for everything. Now lunch-time, when people are fighting with their biriyani chicken and talking to each other is not the right time for a stupid ganamela. Unless it is to get rid of the people. Are these singers so desperate for an audience, that they have to bray wherever they find a crowd? Jeesus!
Last but not least-today nobody fainted! No ambulance, no police, no paramedics! Praise the Lord!
It maybe because there weren't many priests at the altar. And the bishop was not there. It seems their absence made the place holier!
Praise the Lord!
