This writing of this Father is only seeing one side of the Coin. It is clearly not written by a "true" priest. A prefix by fr. does not make you a priest. If you look at the other side, you can see a different angle. A priest ousted by the Bishop who is also using Limousines and Mansion Houses was hurt and the people showed their love by giving a grand send off. A wounded priest by accepting the send off given by his people is quite natural. Let this so called Fr. put in the shoes of Fr. Saji and explain how would he react.!!

1. Limo was arranged and paid for Coppell parishoners. So, chill.
2. Bishops in USA are not received in their churches with band and kuda. Why doesn't any of our bishops refuse to be received with chenda and kuda?
3. Missionaries are supposed to lead simple life. They are not supposed to be worshipping money. However, bishop and most of the priests in his circle will do anything for money. Now that is a real missionary, isn't it?
4. There is nothing wrong with accepting a ride to airport in a limosine. What matters is how they go about in the daily life. It is the people that wanted to give Fr. Saji a limo ride to airport. Fr. Saji didn't arrange it himself, and Fr. Saji didn't request a limo ride.
Now some questions for you. Answer them truthfully if you dare.
1. Why does our Mission diocese's bishop wear gold cross and chain when all bishops wear silver cross and chain? It's ok for some missionaries to splurge, especially the head of the mission diocese?
2. On the front side of 2008 doicean appeal letter it says diocese received $100,726.00 during 2008 diocean appeal. On the back side, under the statement activities, it says they received $59,442.00 during 2008 diocean appeal.Where is the $41,284.00 that diocese received during 2008 diocean appeal?
3. Every year diocese collects hundreds of thousands of dollars on Good Friday in the name of Pope's Holy land mission. Why isn't that getting sent to Pope?
4. Why isn't the $1 million that syro Malabar Diocese receives from US bishops congress on the Syro Malabar Diocean income statement?
5. Where did that money from US bishops congress go?

Why he did not go with his seela clavar supporters in another car to airport?
It was not Fr. Sajy's decision to get into limo. The people forced him to accept it. No other priest will ever get a Limo sponsored by Coppell Parishoners, including the Bishop. However, I do not agree personnally with Fr. Kottakkal's message here. He shows his jealous that a priest gets farewell to the airport in a limo, which probably he couldn't get in his life time until now. But, Fr. Kottakkal, Limo is not expensive as you think. Any ordinary person can get a limo if he is ready to spend some $250 for such short distance of less than 10 miles. In that situation, what is your take on the abusive clergy who charge mandatory $ 500 to bless a 500K house, mandatory $ 300 to bless a 300K house etc? That Syro malabar priest had an annual income of $ 400,000 when he finally forced to ran away from the nearby parish. Every parish priest is getting salary, then why do they ask for bribary like this, that if we don't pay $ 500, then they will not come to bless 500K house? Why don't you write yourself about this clergy abuse activity.
Fr. Sajy was an example here. He never asked for a penny for himself for blessings of home, car, etc. If anyone gave money for blessings he participated, he intentionally gave that money to Kaikkaran for church account. If it is car blessing, then he will ask the person to put whatever offering he has to the "nerchapetty". He took not a penny for his personnel account. And his that attitude made us to pay in large amounts when he come for building fund collection. That is Fr. Sajy was so successful in collecting1.4 millions in 4 months. People even gave money from their credit cards to but this church. That was simply because it was Fr. SAjy. If any other priests asks like these they won't get even half of it in such a short time.
When Fr. Sajy got fired by Bishop badly , just because he put Crucifix in the alter, it was the parishoners who forced him to accept the farewell (he was not ready for that too), it was the parshoners who forced him to accept the $15K gift (only $10K paid), and it was the parishoners who decided to take him in Limo to the airport (his car was already sold).
So fr. Kottakkal, if you are jealous on Fr. Sajy, then you don't deserve to be a priest. Before putting your sword against Fr. Sajy who sat on a Limo provided by parishoners, you must put your writing sword against the priests who take bribary for house visits and blessing. You should write against the bishop who never listen to the majority of parishoners, but stand on his agenda to install claver and sheela on alter by dividing people, you should write against the financial corruption done by the bishop house, where they take majority of the offerings parishoners give for Pop, mission, etc and build mansions in Kerala. You should write against the priests who conduct Spanish masses daily as a pure business on a syromalabar church bought by Malayali community, where they can only have a malayalam mass per week, even though they have their own church and priest. You should write against the Bishop who take no action against such a priest even after repeated complaints, but he was so responsive against Fr. Sajy when he put Crucifix in alter. You should write against sexually abusive priests in Syro malabar community who run to the forntside of the church after mass to hug ladies so tight.

Quite frankly, I did not have the patience to read the entire article because I felt that it’s 100% biased. I agree with the article's simple objectives but the “writer” conveniently forgot some facts and I would like to bring few things.
1.Limousine Usage – Yes Fr Saji was given a short trip to airport in a limousine because the parish people wanted to. Big Mistake :) Fr Saji should have told the people, Sorry I cannot get into Limousine because I have Limofobia :)
Our Chicago Bishop is driving a smaller version of the Long Limousine. He has a Lincoln luxury car, which was given to him as a gift during the ordination. Again I don’t find any problem in that because I like to see my Bishop traveling elegantly.
But I have issues finding the simplicity for a 2.2 Million Dollar house for 5 Pasters including the Bishop. You can very well find a beautiful luxury house in Chicago under 750K, and still they chose to spend 2.2 Million Dollars for a single family house. Is this called simplicity?
Now you can suggest 1000 reasons why you have a 2.2 Million house. But knowing the Chicago market and housing conditions, it was a super luxuary.
I have only sympathy to Fr Paul Kottackal or other priests like this. When there are FIRE in the House, they are trying to find fault with the Underwear. If you want to show some spirituality, please show some Limousine Class in your way of approach towards teh faith matters. You should be bold to react to the real situations not pointing “Unnecessary “ article about the Limosine subject.
Fr.Paul need to open his eyes or stop dealing things in Pala ways.May be trying to say that he obey Bishop.
We heard that Fr.Paul is Bold enough priest.It does not give licience to say anything against Fr.Saji.

He is the master of Character assasination. When we bought the church in LA, he couldn't raise a single penny nor he did contribute any money. So you can understand why he is undermining such a huge achievement by Fr. Saji.

So fr. Kottakkal, if you are jealous on Fr. Sajy, then you don't deserve to be a priest. Before putting your sword against Fr. Sajy who sat on a Limo provided by parishoners, you must put your writing sword against the priests who take bribery for house visits and blessing. You should write against the bishop who never listen to the majority of parishoners, but stand on his agenda to install claver and sheela on alter by dividing people, you should write against the financial corruption done by the bishop house, where they take majority of the offerings parishoners give for Pop, mission, etc and build mansions in Kerala. You should write against the priests who conduct Spanish masses daily as a pure business on a syromalabar church bought by Malayali community, where they can only have a malayalam mass per week, even though they have their own church and priest. You should write against the Bishop who take no action against such a priest even after repeated complaints, but he was so responsive against Fr. Sajy when he put Crucifix in alter.

My point is the money spent is not from the church fund or from the public. Who ever was willing to participate they spend their money to show their respect and love towards Fr. Saji.

As an outsider I was watching closely Recent troubles in Coppell Parish. Be honest with you, as a catholic and true believer of Jesus christ, I am sorry to say that I have noticed the people who supported Saji achan and writing against Bishop and other priests demonstrating their frustrations very Bad way. They even attacking innocent parishioners by using bad language and names. You supporting Saji achan and against marthoma kurissu and curtain right? As an outsider I can not agree with you even if I like to see some changes in our Diocese. If you really like Fr. Saji please behave little better way!!! When you handle things Gundayism way You are going to lose lot of supporters!!!As long as Fr. Saji is a priest he can not support you. The most important thing you can do for Fr. Saji is PRAY FOM HIM.. He need our prayers to be a Good priest for the people in his parish in Kerala.( It is very unfortunate that some people in coppell, they seems Very religious attending Retreats Next day supporting Gundayaism!!!!)

I am not sure its premature.. After many of us spoke to Abhivandya Pithakanmar of Ernakulam-Angamali Diocese, the controversial and fictional article written by loose canon Fr. Paul Kottackal of St. Alphonsa Church, San Fernando, CA, appears to be removed from EKM diocese web-site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It might re-appear under presuure from Chicago Disease. As it stands now, we are mightily impressd by the immediate action taken by the Ernakulam diocese. We are grateful, Thankful; and it restores our faith in church authorities. There are definitely many Bishops, who are practical and stand by TRUTH !!! If Mr. Angadiathu takes even this example; the problems in SMC USA can disappear in a minute !
Listen to the reasonable opinions of majority of the faithfuls. Don't try to make fools of faithfuls. We need an article about this.
History and tradition will tell you who you are and where you come from. It is St. Thomas who lighted the candle of faith in India especially Kerela. He was one of the witnesses of the first Holy Qurbana. That situation was so tense and intense that he or any of the other disciples had not have any time to pull curtain at that time; nor did they have any curtain in that room to pull apart; even if they had a curtain they would not have remembered to pull apart since what was going on was much important than pulling the curtain.
On the next day when actual Mass was offered no one was there to pull the curtain at Golgotha. Jesus was not behind a curtain and those who were witnessing the crucifixion were standing facing/in front of Him and not behind him.
This is the Holy Mass St. Thomas is familiar with. St. Thomas never brought a cross with lotus to India since lotus had not been a symbol of India.
Given this situation let us come to following conclusion.
1. The history takes us to the very first Holy Mass where there was no curtain. The curtain that was hanging in Jerusalem Temple was torn from top to bottom signifying the needlessness of a curtain in the Temple.
2. The cross used for the first Holy Mass was not the disputed Cross.
3. Since there was not curtain used for the first Holy Mass, St. Thomas never used curtain and the disputed cross whenever he said Holy Mass.
4. Since St. Thomas came and preach in India we get direct information and tradition from St. Thomas himself. St. Thomas did not go after the “Indianisation” of Holy Mass as he was not a spokesperson of gospel of compromise but gospel of Jesus Christ. So there would be any way of imparting the tradition of pulling the curtain during Holy Mass. The people at that time were comfortable with the way of Holy Mass offered by St. Thomas.
4. This thinking will prompt us to infer that latter addition of curtain and the disputed cross are foreign to the first Christians of Kerela.
5. Whoever added these curtain and the disputed cross did a irrecoverable damage to our church.
6. We need not look on to any church outside India like Antioch church, Chaldean church or any Syrian church for our tradition. Our tradition comes from Jesus through St. Thomas to Kerela Christians. Whoever comes in between are/should/cannot be accepted/treated as the makers of our church tradition.
7. Some say disciples of St. Thomas played an important role in shaping our liturgy. That too cannot be accepted since we had our own liturgy as taught by St. Thomas. No disciple is greater than the Master. Whoever is pro for the role of the disciples of St. Thomas should answer the following questions.
1. How we offered Holy Mass after the death of St. Thomas and before the arrival of any other missionary whomsoever?
2. Did the first Christians use curtain and the disputed cross for that Mass before the arrival of these missionaries?
3. What was the form of that liturgy? Eastern or Western?
4. Is it not just and proper to omit whatever was incorporated in to our own liturgy whether from disciple or any other missionary?
5. Why do you speak against Westerners and not against those who came from the East who had anything to do with our liturgy?
6. Why did the Easterners added to our liturgy, since we had our own liturgy inherited from St. Thomas.
7. If at all anything were wrong with our liturgy, St. Thomas would have corrected it by adding or omitting. So what was the role of these disciples? Who gave them the authority to change/add to/omit from our own liturgy?
So let us turn to our history and tradition which does not have curtain and disputed Cross and follow it. Let us seek what unite us and not disunite us. It is not the style of Cross but the one who hang on the Cross is important. God is not concerned with the curtain but with the way of our dressing while being in the church.

As per the Edayalekhanam (March 2010) this is to be done on good friday service.Priest has to touch the three sides of the cross ( large cross) with sponge and put the sponge in to the 'kaippuneer".This sponge dipped "Kaippuneer " is then distributed to the laity.
Similar service can be seen in Orthodox or Jacobate churches, but this is the first time Syro Malabar got it.

The Bishop Angadi and similar minded Bishops and priests does not like Latin Roman Catholic Tradition.
But it is interesting to note the Clergy "COLLAR" Bishop and almost all the priests wear as shown in the http://www.stthomasdiocese.org/bishop has its roots in Anglican Clergy. So it looks like some of the Good traditions used all over the Global Church can be imitated , but not with the Liturgy.
Do we have any kind of Eastern/ Chaldean tradition for COLLAR too including "Marthoma Cross" ?
The fact is Bishop and all the priests look graceful in the traditional Roman Catholic COLLAR which is a part of Christian Clerical Clothing.It is a detachable collar that buttons onto a clergy shirt or rabbat (vest), being fastened by two metal studs, one attached at the front and one at the back to hold the collar to the shirt.
The detachable clerical collar was invented by the Rev Dr Donald Mcleod, a Church of Scotland minister in Glasgow. Though the "dog collar" is a fairly modern invention (the detachable collar itself is supposed to have been invented in 1827), the "collarino" may date as far back as the 17th century. The use of the detachable collar became popular among Anglican clergy in the 19th century through the Oxford Movement.
Why not a Traditional Chaldean "Collar" be invented so that the Syro Malabar (Eastern oriented) priests can be distinquished among others ??. Any way the Bishop and Kaduppan Clan is looking to find ways to find uniqueness among the Global Church. Show it first in their Collar, rather than just imitating the Latin Roman Catholic priests ???

The Chalakkudy fellow whose education is "8th grade failed" will teach the Bishop to how to say the qurbana and one of our friend researched a lot and found out that there was no veil at the time when Jesus crucified and at the time of his last supper. And one guy found out that Bishop Powathil is a nuisance to the community like Karunakaran to Congress.Eda Mone, Bishop Powathil is the most knowledgeable person among all the Catholic Bishops. You can ask to any Bishop or priest about him. No one will disagree. You will be surprised if you see the numbers of books he had read and wrote.

I would like to request that you use your writing skills to help and improve the community, rather than for the character assassination of a priest. You are criticizing Archbishop Roger Mahony, from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. I would like to point out that the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is about 8,700 square miles, the largest Archdiocese in the America (about 60% of the area of the state of Kerala or the total area of Trivandrum, Qulion, Alleppy, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thrichur Districts). The helicopter was a gift from a group that includes operating costs, insurance, and maintenance. This same group donates more than $1 million a year to charity programs for those who have been stricken by poverty. The Archbishop never used a single penny from Archdiocese funds for the maintenance of the helicopter. In large cities like L.A., traffic is a nightmare, so many high official use helicopters as a convenience, not as a luxury. To cover the pastoral service in the vast area of the L.A. Archdiocese, the group who donated the helicopter found it to be imperative for Archbishop Mahony to have a helicopter in order to be able to serve the entire Archdiocese in a quick, efficient manner.
Father Saji’s use of a limousine to the airport was probably a gift from the parishioners in order to show their gratitude to him for his pastoral services. Accepting a gift from someone is the gracious, classy thing to do. Had he not accepted this gift, he would have insulted these parishioners, as they obviously put a lot of work into arranging the limo. If he had not accepted the limousine from the parishioners, it would have implied to them that he was not grateful for their gracious gift. Accepting gifts in a gracious manner has always been the proper standard in our family, maybe not in your family’s standards. Someone in this blog wrote about the Kerala Bishops’ usage of the Impala car during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Those cars were a gift from the United States, just as this limousine was a gift from the parishioners. Those Bishops in Kerala were not highly criticized for their use of the gift they received, so why is Father Saji being publicly slammed for his use of a gift?
I would ask you use your writing skills for a better purpose. No wonder we have so much drama in the Syro-Malabar parishes and missions, people are continuously criticizing the actions of priests and not respecting their authority, actions, or judgement. By writing this offensive letter about Father Saji, you are being no different than some of the people on this blog trash-talking about some individuals and continuously insulting them. A person’s family background and upbringing will certainly show through on the works they produce and how the public perceives them, just as yours has been reflected in the article you wrote.

Do you think creating issues to divide a church community is christian and catholic ?
Do you think it right for our bishop to lie to us saying that he is NOT AGAINST CRUCIFIX,when he fires Saji Achan,the very next day after the crucifix installation was done ?
Wasn't our bishop lying to us faithfulls,when he mensioned all those untrue reasons for firing Saji achan,when in fact all those transactions were DONE AFTER SAJI ACHAN WAS FIRED ?
The only thing Saji achan did before he was fired from his postion was the INSTALLATION OF THE CRUCIFIX.
I HOPE THE BISHOP IS CHRISTIAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT HIS OWN FAULTS AND BRING ABOUT PEACE.

Nobody needs to be neutral. There is nothing wrong with supporting an honest and humble priest. But it is wrong to support crucifixion of a good priest for refusing to join the Syro diocese mafia.
This is the first time i am commenting to something like this.it is very very sad that why still people don't understand what is happening here....?Who is so called perfect missionary to say what should I do with my hard earned money.As for Fr.Saji I never and never will feel that he was less of a good preist who never asked and demanded money for self but was very modest in all his ways. Last 10 years he was serving a community in California.For his expenses he use to work in English church and hospital.For his stay he work in oldage home.Show us a priest like that in Chicago Diosis.
He came here not for Chicago Diosis.His visa was not under them when he came here.His church is one of well organised syromalabar church in USA.He get along with Pala and Trichur guys same way.He get along with Bishop and church members same way.
A strog person and at the same time a diplomatic too.We should have priests who are diplomatic and at the same time Bold too.

Quite frankly, I did not have the patience to read the entire article because I felt that it’s 100% biased. I agree with the article's simple objectives but the “writer” conveniently forgot some facts and I would like to bring few things.
1.Limousine Usage – Yes Fr Saji was given a short trip to airport in a limousine because the parish people wanted to. Big Mistake :) Fr Saji should have told the people, Sorry I cannot get into Limousine because I have Limofobia :)
Our Chicago Bishop is driving a smaller version of the Long Limousine. He has a Lincoln luxury car, which was given to him as a gift during the ordination. Again I don’t find any problem in that because I like to see my Bishop traveling elegantly.
But I have issues finding the simplicity for a 2.2 Million Dollar house for 5 Pasters including the Bishop. You can very well find a beautiful luxury house in Chicago under 750K, and still they chose to spend 2.2 Million Dollars for a single family house. Is this called simplicity?
Now you can suggest 1000 reasons why you have a 2.2 Million house. But knowing the Chicago market and housing conditions, it was a super luxuary.
I have only sympathy to Fr Paul Kottackal or other priests like this. When there are FIRE in the House, they are trying to find fault with the Underwear. If you want to show some spirituality, please show some Limousine Class in your way of approach towards teh faith matters. You should be bold to react to the real situations not pointing “Unnecessary “ article about the Limosine subject.

WHERE DID YOU EVER GET THE IDEA THAT I HATE GARLAND CHURCH.I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH GARLAND CHURCH AT ALL OR THE PEOPLE THERE.

I totally understand your point.I have been to Las Vegas many times and I know Vegas is like any other US cities.
But after studying Fr kottackal's report.I am amazed how little he knows about this culture,that he has been a part of ,for 10 years.
It was quiet shallow and simply STUPID to make such comments about ANY PERSON solely based on a LIMO ride that the person accepted from a community,as a farewell ride to the AIR PORT ( under 5 miles ).
Fr Kottackal should have investigated further before making this useless report,especially on a diocesan web site.
I simply cannot understand the accusations Fr kottackal made about Fr saji,for a LIMO RIDE ,arranged by the Parishoners, to show their appreciation to him for SERVING them.
Fr Kottackal should research about the wealth of Fr Saji when compared to the other Syro Malabar priests serving in the US.
It is very evident that these guys are amassing wealth for themselves and their families while they are WORKING in this country.
They are investing money in the BLADE BANKS to enrich themselves.I do not hear of them doing much charity or mission work.
I wish Fr kottackal uses his time and education for other IMPORTANT reasons such as EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT GOD'S LOVE,PEACE,HUMILTY ETC.
