Today we morn the passing away of our dear friend Joy (Mathew) Olickal. Although afflicted with a cardiac condition for some time, his death was a shock to everyone who knew and loved him.
തന്റെടമുള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തിത്വമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റേത്. ഉള്ള കാര്യം ആരോടും തുറന്നു പറയാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹം മടിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ വൈര്യം വച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നടക്കുന്ന ഒരാളല്ലായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ഈ സ്വഭാവ വിശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ചില തലങ്ങളില്‍ അപ്രിയനാക്കി എന്ന് പറയേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും കഴിഞ്ഞ കുറെ കാലങ്ങളായി നമ്മുടെ പള്ളിയധികാരികള്‍ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം ഏറെക്കുറെ അനഭിമാതനായിരുന്നു. ചിക്കാഗോ സീറോ മലബാര്‍ പള്ളിയുടെ സ്ഥാപനത്തിലും വളര്‍ച്ചയിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുണ്ടായിരുന്ന പങ്കു നിസ്സീമമാണ്. എങ്കിലും പില്‍ക്കാലത്തുണ്ടായ തിക്താനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ വെളിച്ചത്തില്‍ കുറെ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി പള്ളി രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ നിന്നും വിട്ടു നില്‍ക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.
കുറെ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി ചില്ലറ ആരോഗ്യ പ്രശ്നങ്ങള്‍ അലട്ടിയിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വേര്‍പാട്‌ അപ്രദീക്ഷിതമായിരുന്നു. മി. ജോയി ഓലിക്കലിന്റെ നിര്യാണത്തില്‍ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ആത്മാര്‍ഥമായ അനുശോചനം ഇവിടെ അറിയിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വേര്‍പാടിലുള്ള ദുഖത്തില്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടൊപ്പം ഞങ്ങളും പങ്കുചേരുന്നു.
